Bloody birds

WTF!? I experienced a few close fly-bys but this was real attack!

Always best to land when birds start to attack, as they always try more than once and I'd rarther land and go for a walk to get the drone back than it fall out the sky.

I saw on this forum that some people put stickers on the mini with black and yellow colors to fend of birds (poisonous stuff ).

It definitely has to do with the MM shape. In my area I have flown many different planes and drones and never experienced a problem. With the MM I am being attacked every single time, one bird starts calling others who gang up and bomb dive on me. As soon as one bird starts I do the following :
- move to sport mode
- go quicky down, that is what they want
the drone to do
- rush backwards to take off point , i.e. camera facing the birds ( I  think they understand that the camera is the head and they are more prone to really attack in the back than in the front )
- rush to land below some shelter

As soon as they detected me, there is no way I can fly again in the next hour. I have to move to another spot.

I am 3d printing a mode with two light spars spanning for about 60 cm, and with some reddish triangles at each extremity to simulate winglets, to make the MM look larger.
Total mod about 15 grams, meaning it should not trigger the payload restricted mode

I have no idea what kind of bird that was, but it was mean!  Poor little Mini, but at least it stayed dry.  I hope your friend has Care Refresh.

I guess I'm lucky that I haven't had an fatal bird attack.  The crows and hawks were curious when I first got my Mavic Mini.  They would fly and circle too close.  Once a crow flapped and hovered a few seconds in front of my Mini only a foot away!  I stood my ground so to speak.   I now put the Mini into sport mode and chase naughty crows down if they are on my property..  I've put a mean looking yellow and black skin on the Mini and they fear the killer bee swarm sounding Mini now (at least the ones that hang around my property.)  The hunted becomes the hunter.

Something might have to do with the MIni's resemblance with a white body bird, perceived as a concurrent species.

Let us know how it goes, what will be done to fix it.

In the meantime to avoid bird attacks (note to self and everyone interested):

• know your environment
• look for birds
• print ore use a flashy colorful skin when you think of flying in a densely bird populated area
  

In case of attack, should you receive a warning first (flyby):

• increase altitude immediately (birds swoop down, not up).
• use sport mode to increase reactivity
• head back to your home point
  

I am thinking of buying some cheap skin to use as a disposable deterrent when I fly w/ birds around.

Man that is unfortunate. I hope you get a fixed soon.

I would have landed right there on the bank and walk to it. Fortunately in my area the birds totally ignore my mini. I was afraid of some of the birds that can be aggressive during this time of the year because they are nesting, but so far so good. Even the crows and ravens don't go after it.

Would this be covered by the DJI care refresh?

Bird protects it's nest placed maybe somewhere near the arc.

WoW that was a direct hit! I’ve had close calls but never hit. Flying in field had about 20 birds take off and I tried not to hit any, got thru that one, it’s scary! Thanks for sharing!

yes  , Eagles ....  with a S   because   this summer i have seen 3 of them flying at the same time.
