New EASA regs due to be enacte very soon, demand that all legacy craft, i.e. Phantoms, Helicopters, Mavics, model aircraft etc will need to be fitted with a transponder to indicate their position and other data to nearby aircraft.  This is to occur before July 2022 in the UK and EU. If they are not fitted the aircraft cannot fly. I am all for increased saftey, but surely this will clutter up scanners unnecessarily, and of course may well not be possible in a large number of aircraft. Thus it may well either drive many pilots underground to fly illegally, or effectively render all of their expensie kit completely worthless.
Other than bring out a new model which already has this built in (but not available in the UK), does DJI or indeed have any sugegstons as to how this can be achieved?

Seems a stupid law if it is true, private pilots won't want to have to deal with a screen full of items that they cannot otheriwse see.

You can buy a transponder and attach it to your drone - https://uavionix.com/products/ping200sr just don't look at the price.

Gulp. And I have seven drones and a helicopter to fit one too!

It does seem stupid to me as well. I am all for safety, but this will do more harm than good.

If the ADS-B system shows an aircraft on the screen, being a drone, the pilot will look out for it. Most times he will not see it because it is too small, and the next time he gets a target, he will ignore it. Thus the benefit of the system will be lost. At the same time, he is not focussing on other aircraft out there or properly paying attention to the task of flying, this is a distraction he does not need.

I have a good idea, Why don't we keep maned aircraft above 500 ft. and drones under 400 ft. Just leave the transponders off the drones. Drones can be made to do that. Keep it simple stupid. Have fun.

I agree people, it is simple. We already have the separation there and it works for responsible pilots. For irresponsible pilots then they will not use the module or anything else. Sorry about the link not working. I have tried myself and its down here. I have taken a screen shot of the relevant bit as I still have it on my computer.
