I'm new to this.. be kind..

Bought my first drone (DJI Mavic Air 2). For various reasons decided I didn't / don't want to use my smartphone with the native controller so, instead, I purchased a Smart Controller since I read (on DJI's site, not a third party) that with Ocusync on board the SC would be compatible with MA2 subject to a future firmware upgrade. So I took delivery of both, and have been waiting...

Various third party sites said the SC upgrade for MA2 would be 'a couple of weeks' after the general availability of MA2. I placed my order the day ordering opened, so I have had the drone in its packaging in my office for, I guess, almost three weeks now. I check the site daily but it seems the firmware for DJI Assistant for Mavic is steadfastly locked at V2.0.12 and has not been updated since 28th April (more than one month now).

Having waited this long, I'm going to keep waiting... no point messing up my SC with some sort of Android hack, and I still don't want to use my iPhone.

Does anyone have any clue when this upgrade is likely to be released (either days, weeks, months)? Being new to DJI - do they have any sort of normal firmware upgrade cadence e.g. always every six weeks, or always every three months?

Thanks in advance, look forward to finally getting flying - whenever that happens!

Thanks @ET214 that was super interesting to read. Whether or not updating Smart Controller counts as a "big upgrade" (to therefore be packaged in with the Q3 dump in the article you cite), who knows, there did seem to be enough noise floating around that SC compatibility with MA2 would come sooner rather than later so I remain optimistic. Also, I would think it certain there will be other, smaller, incremental changes and bug fixes to firmware dropped sooner than Q3 just as normal course of business -- would help if I knew when the last drop prior to 4/28 was.

Anyway. Thanks. All inputs appreciated. I'll only wait another week or two max before I just get on with it, probably using an old Android handset I have in a drawer....

No not yet. I know... wasting time etc... truth be told I haven't had much time and as a newbie I assume I need a decent chunk of time to get started. One way or the other (i.e. with or without the SC firmware to work with MA2) I'm sure I'll fly it within the next 1-2 weeks.

Please read and follow all advice. I installed it but did not try and connect ( bind)  my Mavic Air 2 to the Smart Controller. I also did not try and fly my Mavic 2 Pro with the app either.

How can you NOT have ANY information on this?  It’s 2020!  Why not just hire robots for social commentary then?  We come here on your site for information from DJI. This is hardly secretive info regarding upgrades. You launched a new product.  Now support it!!!  You are leaving money on the table so to speak to act in this manner.  I get it if the info doesn’t trickle down so push upward and get us some truth.  It would go a long way. The damage has already started long ago regarding DJI services.  Hard telling just how big DJI could really get if they understood their own customer.  So sad from so many angles.

we are not asking about future products and Smart Controller compatibility. We are asking about CURRENT products. The Mavic Air 2 and the reported ( by DJI)  upcoming compatibility for the Smart Controller and this drone.
DJI has confirmed it will happen, we are just asking when.

Mavic Air 2 is launched (it's not a forthcoming product); Smart Controller is launched (ditto); and you said they would be compatible. You would not have made that statement without having the requisite dev work scheduled. So as a minimum you should be able to say "not earlier than X but not later than Y". Some sort of indication would be nice....

#Quick Reply Here#I also got the smart controller knowing that it is going to work with the Air 2. It's so much better than using your phone, not to mention the super bright screen it will be perfect. I just hope that DJI really really double on bringing out that update. You read this DJI? Make it happen already!! One funny thing is that the smart controller costed me almost as much as the Air 2 itself.. lol
