I just updated my Mavic Air 1 to Air 2 in the hope that "everything is bit better" as everyone stated.
But in the second day, i had my first crash with a drone. I previously owned a Phantom 4 Advanced and Air 1, but never crashed do to my errors! Now it seems like a good day!
What happened? My Mavic Air 2 likes to active track in a slopy way. It tends to change sides of the road when tracking without having why! But that's another topic that I opened. Today, when testing Active Track 3.0 (what a good name for a crap of software) my drone has stopped under some power lines. I stopped because i saw her random change of road side and then she stopped but unfortunately, something even sadder happened: the drone triggered a RTH and went directly into the powerlines.
At first, i did not know why that happened. I cleand up the dirt, changed 2 propellers (i had the luck it tried to rotate and it dropped on it's feet) and then tried to see what happened. Seems like my wife was calling me, and this triggered the RTH.
I tried it for 5 times after that, and when i call myself for let's say 10-15 seconds, a RTH is triggered. Even if i answer the phone and talk for a few seconds, RTH is being triggered.
I was flying around 2 hours later and in mid flight i have put my phone in airplane mode (thinking that maybe someone will call me again and to avoid that) and after ten seconds of not touching anything the drone triggered RTH.
Is this normal behaviour? DJI Go 4 app and Air 1 didn't do this. I know that not once i had to answer my phone and that RTH was never triggered.
I have a friend who says his Air 2 with it's iphone dont replicate this. My phone is also an iPhone..
I think one question should be whether or not the log analysis can distinguish between an actual user action and a RTH command issued by the app without any user action.
JJB, https://app.airdata.com/share/CFxJYv this flight was about testing things out with my current setup: iPhone 11pro with latest fw and latest dji fly app, Mavic Air 2 with latest firmware.
The first return to home was initiated by me, just to control that the drone knows where it's "home" is.
The second rth was when my phone rang, and after 10 seconds of not answering it triggered RTH
The third rth was when i answered a phone call, it again triggered RTH
And there is this funny thing i initially thought it was "air plane mode" that triggers RTH but it's simply when i bring the Control Center of my iphone to the screen, and the DJI FLY app thinks that there is no transmission and wants to initiate RTH. I made a little screen recording of that Here, MisterFrag's question is very good, whether or not the log analysis can distinguish between an actual user action and a RTH command issued by the app without any user action. You can see in the video i'm not "input"ing anything. And when it crashed, I was on my scooter and the remote with my phone were on the back of my car.... No one has touched anything
I then thought that if dji fly app is put in background, it does that all the time, but it doesnt. I could send text messages for tens of seconds, or whatsapping and the RTH is NOT triggered.
I asked a friend from UK (i am from Romania) to test this out, because he owns the same setup as i do. And he says he cannot replicate the problem with the calls and long beeps, his drone wont rth... I don't know why and what could be the difference, because in theory is exactly the same setup!
I talked with some folks at dji, they were telling me that the phone signal interfered with the drone-rc connection, I told him he was wrong, he told me again his devs told him that airplane mode is a must when flying bla bla bla. Let's say it is But what about control center? I can't even set my phone's brightness without my drone to come home by itself?
LE: i tried in the above flight when testing the RTH vs dji fly app to disconnect the phone from the wire: nothing happens, as it actually should! When connecting the wire back, transmission was back on with no RTH.
Interesting case, i will test this out myself ; dial my number to the device where the flyapp is running.
In this log 5x a RTH initiated by the app. I do not see any difference in data between the user press thtat soft button and when i did rth due to a incomimng phone call.
Disconnecting the phone from the RC does not trigger a RTH, as the connection RC<>DRONE is still active, for test just power off the RC and after a while your craft enters a RTH.
Twice a phone disconnect (63.5 and 54.5 secs); so no data written in the log but flightmode remains P-GPS and not a RTH. In both situations craft just hovered in place, distance to HP the same all the time.
I don't exactly know why there are two phone disconnect. I remember to only once disconnect the cable.
I tried the phone calling while doing a Hyperlapse and it didnt rth! After 2 minutes, when hyperlapsed has ended, i called back my drone dialing my number )) That's not good!
I tried with a mavic air 1 and DJI Go 4 app does not trigger RTH when the phone is dialed.
What is more interesting is that, as i told you before, my friend who has exactly the same setup as i have, in England, cannot replicate the problem.
Damn the f*^ing FLY APP misterFrag!! You were right! After uninstalling and then reinstaling the application, rth is no more triggered when dialing the phone. Nor when requesting control center in ios.
When i think i crashed my drone once and one more almost crash it!! Because of some stupid software.
Well, thanx guys! You are the best! Dji should pay you! Their support is with very limited knowledge. They told me it was interference with phone signal

Good to read that re-installing did the trick
I call my device while flying ; could answer the phone and flyapp did not act funny at all.
Seems like i did not had the latest DJI Fly app. I had it installed about 2-3 months ago, when i was studying something about the mini. But don't get me wrong, i checked for updates on my iphone before my first flight and i had 33 available updates, witch i all did so as of my AppStore, i was all updated!
This is a screen capture from the other days: it looks different now, after reinstalling the app
Lucky after all that crash that it didnt happen something even worse than that.
I had the same issue with updating the app. I got the app when I first found out the MA2 was coming out. Never got any notice the app was updated. I don't even see it in the iPhone app update section. Where in the app does it even tell you what version you have??? I would be nice if the moderators would tell us when an app update occurs.
I never heard until now about iphone’s appstore messing the updates! I dont know who is to blame for not updating. But if my drone would do damage or some accident, i would be to blame!
The version is written in profile - settings, but never occured throught my mind the app is not up to date, as i manually forced update for all programs in App Store before flying the drone.

"Hello there. Thank you for reaching out. The iOS DJI Fly V1.1.5 has been released on June 24, 2020. Here is what’s new to the said update :
- Updates icons for the remote controller signal and GPS signal.
- Adds Target Scanning toggle in Control settings. When enabled, aircraft will automatically scan and display targets in the Camera View (only compatible with DJI Mavic Air 2).
- Free Hyperlapse mode now supports the Spotlight function. After users drag a box to select a target, the target automatically stays centered in the shot (only compatible with DJI Mavic Air 2).
- Fixes crashing issues and improves app stability.
Thank you."
I see now that this 1.1.5 version was released only yesterday.
Then everybody who's reading this should go in DJI GO Fly app and check their version! If you have 1.1.3 and appstore won't update automatically to 1.1.5, uninstall and then reinstall the DJI app.

It will also show the current app version being used in the 'about' section of the app. .5 came out about 36 hours ago and is optimised to use with the latest FW v.250.
There should be a single source DJI link you can go to and see what the most current version is for everything. If you look at the DJI Mavic Air 2 Release date 6/15/2020 at the start of the forum listing you actually see IOS Fly is 1.1.4 which no one seems to have ever gotten. And it seems I remember DJI Mindy saying she was getting some changes piecemeal. We need one link we can add to our desktops, tap on it, and see what’s most current.
Hi. I am sorry for the previous trouble you have experienced and I am happy to know that after reinstalling the DJI Fly application the previous trouble was resolved. If you have further concern or inquiry with your DJI Mavic Air 2. Please feel free to post it here at DJI Forum. Thank you.
