Ever since the update, I get "network error" any time I try to update my Air 2. Either by using DJI Assist or by the Fly app.

Uninstalled Assist 2.

Downloaded from your link and installed.

Connected via Ethernet instead of wifi.

Nothing that complicated. I just turned off WIFI on my phone so it would use Verizon 4G data instead of my wifi from "Sparklight." Then I connected up the remote, turned everything on and it updated by itself without any fuss. I'd tried changing everything but ISP, and realized I have two, so I tried the other.

Never encountered anything Sparklight did not let me do before.

The issue relates to the stack preference order of the network connections. The Assistant 2 to aircraft connection is a USB network connection. And has its own ethernet connection.

If the preference order in you PC or Mac puts the internet connection to the drone at the top of the stack it makes it the default connection for the internet. So when assistant 2 connects to the drone it forces it as the primary internet connection interface.

Find the DJI Network interface and reduce its priority order in the network preferences.

Or conversely move the order up on your favoured internet link.

Cheers
