Which device receives GPS signals?  Phone?  Controller?  Drone?

I often fly off my covered porch.  Sometimes, it takes some time to acquire sats.  Which device needs to be in the clear for GPS?

When you are flying the app knows where and how far away the drone is.
It knows how fast the drone is flying.
A GPS receiver in the phone or controller isn't going to be much use for that is it?

In addition to the post #2 ; Mobile device GPS is used if user wants to reset HomePoint in flight  to the position of the RC/MobDevice.

What about the "aircraft orientation" displayed at the center bottom while flying... that would need the GPS and compass(?)  from the phone as well? That is relative to the actual RC position, not the current home point I hope?

No ... if it's working properly, it's showing the position relative to the homepoint.
It only needs your phone's compass to know which way you are facing.

As illustrated above, the map display shows the controller's location if the phone or tablet has GPS location data.
The orientation display shows the recorded home point.
