Hello Everyone

I am new to the drone game but eager to learn to enjoy the use of my drone.

I recenlty purchases my mac mini but it seems i am in a restricted area, i am in the LU area in the UK not far from an airport.
I would like to test my drone out and have seen others flying around in the local area.

Is there a guide which i can read or wouild i need to read some of posts in threads to help me.

Thank you in advance and any advice would be apprieciated.

Regards

NKhan

Read the manual, and re-read the manual.
You may have to drive to an open area to learn and to practise, and KEEP IT CLOSE!
Distance will come with time/confidence.
Watch all the you tube vids you can on the Mini, And you said there were other UAV pilots in a local area?
They can be a resource if they are flying similar aircraft.
Take your time, go slow, and all will be good.
Oh, and stay away from water flights for a while.....
Oh, and did I say read and re-read the manual?

You won't remember everything in first passes, but if something pops up, you may recognize the issue from reading the manual...

Thanks flycaster

I got the mini as it seem a good starter model and no restrictions as it is under 250g.
But it seems there is still many restrictions on this or am I doing it wrong

I doubt you will absorb the manual all in one go there's a lot in there. With me it tend to be read, experiment, read relevant sections, experiment.............
One thing that has caught me out several times is RTH behaviour.
I'd suggest going out to an open, empty, safe area and going through all of the RTH behaviours with the exception of the loss on signal (which I have yet to be able to dulpicate by any means other than switching the controller off, waiting for maybe 8 seconds and then switching the controller back).
Try out  the 'what happens if an RTH is triggered when the drone is within 20m of the home point' behaviour.
During such experiments set the RTH height low, you shouldn't have to clear trees etc if you chose a suitable place.
Once you are satified you understand them, set the RTH height to say 50m and experiment with stopping the climb once the drone is over 20m, say at 25m (how is buried in the small print on page 14 of the manual). Not knowing or having forgotten the latter meant I had a very nerve racking RTH when I lost signal and the RTH height had accidentally been set stupidly high
Look into the 3  "failsafe"/loss-of-signal options of RTH, hover and land.
Browse forums for how to deal with wind.
Read the CAA drone stuff, around https://register-drones.caa.co.u ... ely-and-responsibly

Thanks flycaster and Sean, some great tips there

It’s difficulty as everyone area is different and the conditions of flying are not the same for all, it be nice if I can test out in the field near my house but it seems that I am in restricted zone which I didn’t think applied to the mini

Hi Stephen

I am on the edge of the blue zone, I take it from the information provided a mini is restricted in the UK now.

nKhan as far as I am aware it's not that the mini is "now" restricted, I believe the area has always been a restriction zone for all drones and probably all RC aircraft too, as per section 5 of https://register-drones.caa.co.uk/drone-code/where-you-can-fly

You are welcome, hopefully you will be able to get out from underneath the area sometime soon and enjoy your Mini.
Just make sure to read up on how it does in 'strong' wind and what to do if it encounters strong wind. Also the RTH behaviours, the latter has caught me out more than once, first with a phantom and then the mini, fortunately for me there were no consequences as I was able to, respectively, cancel the RTH and 'work with it'.. but the latter caused several minutes of clenched cheeks.
