All you need is perfect conditions:
  • 24 FPS
  • 1/50 Shutterspeed
  • Waking up super early
  • No wind
  • Indirect sunlight
  • Active wildlife
  • Wildlife swimming right at the surface
  • Low tide
  • Clear water in a mud-filled bay
  • ND4 polarized lens
  • Increased ISO (there's no light underwater)
  • Reasonable caffeine intake - too much makes for jittery thumbs
  • Not getting knoocked out of the air by agitated seagulls

Nice leopard shark. I guess you are on the west coast then?  I have always found noon to be best for viewing great depths. Once on a calm day at noon from an outrigger canoe, I was able to clearly see "tiny" real army trucks that had been dumped into a 200 foot deep lagoon on Johnston Island. The water appeared to not exist to a degree that I had a mild case of acrophobia ;-)

Same thing for me diving in the Red Sea...the bottom, 150' away, seemed like you could almost reach out and touch it.
