Whereas the camera gimbal can rotate 90° down and only ~5° up, would you fellow MA2 pilots rather have the look-down sensors be look-up?

I'm thinking about instances where RTH occurred whilst an sUAV I was operating was under something like a tree canopy, and RTH was set to above that height to, supposedly, ensure a safe return home. NOT

Seems like you had a conversation with yourself there for a minute mate, anyways I prefer the sensor at the top as well given the reason you stated but it is always better to fly home manually instead of using the RTH, that's my preference

I keep my distance from objects above me... so no, I am happy with the lower sensors.  No hard landings.  

Why instead? Why not in addition to?

1) The gimbal can rotate up 24 degrees if you select that option
2) If you accidentally trigger an RTH under a tree canopy or Low Battery triggers it, you should immediately tap the RTH button again and cancel it.  Just like ejection seats, the RTH button is a way out of a bad situation.  Practice finding that button with your left thumb until it becomes second nature.  
3) The bigger threat to me is below versus above.
4) I like MisterFrag's idea of both...but the costs go up for more sensors.
