The main clue is the small sensor. It's basic physics. The size of the light capturing media, be it a digital sensor or film, changes how depth of field is perceived even if the aperture is the same. Additionally, a fairly wide angle lens will increase this effect. That is why the MA2 camera is able to get everything from about 40-50cm to infinity in reasonable focus.
Same principle at work with other fixed focus cameras such as a Gopro and a multitude of other fixed focus cameras, like on cheaper/older smartphones.
A larger aperture and bigger sensor and/or a longer lens, will quickly introduce the need for an actual focusing system. In the M2P case which uses a "1 sensor, getting things in focus should not be that hard. With such a sensor size (its still a small sensor) and a wide angle lens, F/5.6-8.0 focused at 8-10 meters should get everything from roughly 5-6m to infinity in reasonable focus. I've never used the M2P but the physics are what they are. |
