I don't know how to feel about this, while it's impressive this is clearly not a stock drone. So while it "may" be a world record for the mini, it's not for a stock mini which is a bit misleading.

If I had to guess, knowing a few people have tired to swap larger 18650's in the mini's battery wrapper. I would bet this one of those cases but a successful battery swap, I would love to know more about what you did to the mini to achieve this.

Aside from the truly impressive RC range, I am puzzled by the power source?  When I flew my Mini 4000 meters out & back (8000 meters total), I barely made it back with 3% battery.  This flight covered over 32,000 meters, more than 4 times the distance.  This means this Mini needed more than 4 times the power to cover the distance, plus the additional power required to carry the mass of the additional battery capacity.  Not to mention the battery supplied all these many watts while maintaining a cool 17.3° C (63.1° F).

That sounds right for the old lipo day's, but if were talking about 18650 like cells it's another can of worms.

One of the mini's NA batteries is about 45g and are 2400mah 18650 size cells, 18650 = 18mm x 65mm. You could step into a 21700 which is about 70g at 5000mah (21700 = 21mm x 70mm) So less then double the weight for double the mah capacity.

The larger batteries also run cooler and it wouldn't take much modification to fit the slightly larger cells. If they were just heat wrapped and with a little body modification to the mini you could probably still close the battery door.

All assumptions, no clue how @Op actually achieved this, I also wonder if any radio/antenna modifications were used.

The comments posted on Youtube actually mention the batteries used: "Battery: 5000mAh Overlander Supersport" I think that description fits several products, tho. One product I found (2S) weights 250 g , so 150 g more than the original batteries. That would be within the lift capacity of the MM even with standard batteries (I think people manage to lift almost 200 g and still have a controlled flight).

At the very end of this video the author inserted a still image of how a long-range-modded MM looks like .... wow!
P.S.: And it*S shown on the video's preview image :-)

This is a "stock" Mini with the stock Li-ion battery  replace by a 5000 mah 2s Lipo battery.
The LiPo is connected directly to the ESC board.

A stock battery can fly about 6,4km and back, ive done that flight, so this 16,1km and back flight is about 2,5 times longer.
For this flight, The stock Li-ion battery was replaced by a 5000 mah 2s Lipo battery.
The LiPo is connected directly to the ESC board.
The temperatur reading is not accurate as the termal sensor is not connected to the battery, its mearly the ambient temperature inside the Mini body.

The LiPo battery weighs about 215 gr, stock weight is around 245 gr but slightly modded the weight is brought down to the 215 gr

Further is definitely possible, but not in Normal mode...
Better wind conditions and more mah battery is what is needed..18km and back is possible, maybe even 20km. We'll see in the weeks to come...

Not as hard as it looks....A pair of 19dBi panel antennas, an open space with good LOS and a LiPo instead of the stock Li-ion battery....then 10-12km is easy, above that you need to have extremly good wind conditions as well.

WIth the Mini there is not much difference CE vs FCC, at least much less then previous WiFi birds....
