This is how it looked there in January. I flew over the reef at this point. The cargo ship with leaking oil tanks is now lying on the edge of the reef in front of Pointe d'Esny. The oil flows with the current between Île aux Aigrrettes and Mahébourg along the coast ...

Thank you guys. Unfortunately, it will take a while for this dreamlike lagoon to recover. Apart from the corals, the current drives the oil into a turtle area. I know the island well,  I am shocked...

Accident in June 2020 off Pointe D'Esny (Mauritius). The salvage of the ship is now complete. The reef has suffered badly as you can see. However, the abundance of fish in the reef has recovered enormously during the pandemic.
