In an earlier post I reviewed some shots taken a while ago, just outside the no-fly zone for the Basilica:

https://forum.dji.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=222076

I've been back with the Mavic2Zoom recently and, again observing the no-fly zone, was able to get
some close-ups of the East transept and the front facade.  The West transept and the rear of the
edifice will be more difficult, as you will see from the map, but I shall attempt those at a later date.
Here is the approach from the south, I'll produce the other directions later:

Great shots Captain. I have observed that in the areas where it is allowed to fly, the maximum altitude according to Géoportal is 50 meters (160 feet). It is right? In France is this so?

Thanks for sharing!!   Waiting for the other points of view...

Hi QQ. Thank you.  Yes there are various height limits for flights in France. The colour code indicates the height limit. In that particular area, red means NO flying, of course. The orange areas are limited to 50m.  Maximum height of all (in white areas) is 150m.

Thanks DAF. To be sure I did not infringe the no-fly zone, I stayed 40-50m further away than necessary. Even at that distance the Zoom gave very satisfactory results, in my opinion.  Since the Basilica is only a 20 minute drive from home, I shall use it as a focal point for honing my skills with the M2Z.

Thanks AJ. I found that, taking stills a 2x Zoom gives excellent definition. Going further in with the digital 4x zoom in video gives a much closer look but loses out slightly on the definition. Still pretty satisfactory to my untutored eye.

I have seen it, these days I plan to visit the Arette la pierre saint-martin area. There are areas of 50 meters and others of "vol interdit", although there is a very large "vol interdit" area in the town of Arette.

Thanks for your feedback

Ah yes, I've had a look at the Drone map, and you're going to have no joy there at all, alas.
Perhaps a little further south, and higher into the Pyrénées.  Good luck:

I'll upload some video, if my ISP will stand the strain.
The bandwidth out here in the sticks is miserly, and yet the price is the same.
It takes all night to upload a couple of minutes' worth of video to YT.
Nothing to do with service provider, it's the local network which is still on copper wire.

It's the Zoom feature of the Mavic which makes it possible.  I am delighted with that feature of the machine.

Thanks AJ. I'm not happy with the exposure settings on the flight to the East transept. I shall do that again when the weather returns to sunny. We've had thunderstorms and heavy rain for the last 24 hours, on and off,

I went out early today as the forecast was thunderstorms for late afternoon - got home at 2 and it remained 33c with hardly any wind and not a drop of rain - forecast for the next week is very wet though! I'm not complaining - these 'tropical' 20c+ nights are very uncomfortable.

Ah hitting the NFZ.

Carefully ensuring I did not enter it. The drone could have flown straight over the cathedral, had I let it ;)
The red zones are not ring-fenced here, it's up to the pilot to know where they are and not transgress.

Ah,   So the fly safe zones aren't all implemented in France?
