The highest point in the Mayenne, Pays de la Loire, is the Mont des Avaloirs, in the Alpes Mancelles, at just 416 metres.
The Belvedere in the forest is an 18m high viewing platform which affords views to all points of the compass.
In the late autumn when I did this flight, there were no visitors, and it was the day of official closure
for maintenance and repairs. The site was deserted. On the journey to the summit we had driven for
some distance through thick fog, and it was only on reaching the top of the hill that we broke through into
bright sunshine (fortunately).

Very strange structure,  at first I thought WW2 but in the later shots it looks much newer.

Yes it had suffered the ravages of time, and so was closed in 2019 for repair and modernisation.  I keep meaning to go back, but haven't made it yet.
