Farmers are on the go all year round, and my neighbour is no exception.
I've buzzed over his fields in all seasons and he accepts it all good-naturedly.
He uses the excuse to call on me at Apéro-o'clock to drain my whisky stock.

Thanks. He's a good pal, and I've swallowed as much of his Calvados as he's had of my Whisky

That reminds me I have a bottle of Calvados I brought back from Cognac,  I really should check its still OK.

It will be fine, even if you don't open it until YOUR retirement
But once opened, it mysteriously evaporates away quite quickly

Thanks AJ. There are a few more to add to the series. That's the ensilage, or harvesting the maize. I just have to extract them from the archive........

These clips from the harvesting video were done before dawn on a damp October morning, maybe that's why they seem a little out of focus.

Friday week (11th September) is the next ensillage (maize harvest), he tells me. Weather permitting - and provided I can drag myself out of bed at 06h00 - I'll be there with the M2Zoom.

Ive been watching the farmers here the last week or so, they are not mostly ploughing. I was going to send the drone up for some shots but the amount of seagulls following the tractors is scary.

Bird strikes are always a worry. I was going to do a flight at the Great Orme near Llandudno a few years ago, but when I saw the flocks of seagulls and terns (Massive, some of them) I chickened out. Pardon the bird pun

Ive recently had a few run-ins with seagulls,  even had three of them chase the drone home and then circled like vultures for ages.

Who needs Drone Police when we've got birds
Just the other day I was flying over fields and trees when I spotted a heron flying.
Tried to zoom in but I was a bit slow on the trigger and the resulting footage is still too far away to be impressive.

They're a common sight here, too. And the white ones, the Egrets.  I once counted a dozen of 'em in the field next to the house.  They hunt the little froglets and voles, mice and so on. They walk amongst the cattle, who obligingly disturb these little ground-dwelling creatures for them to gobble up.

Most of the egrets here like to walk in the estuary mud at low tide.

Last year, one of the bigger lakes to the south of here was emptied for cleaning - was it you who asked about the fish ladder? - and in the mud and remaining pools of water were dozens of pure white egrets ferreting about.  I'll dig out the footage. I flew over quite high, so they're only small dots, but you can see how numerous they were.
