I have been having a frustrating issue with the smart controller's video feed. If I have to go into settings (to connect wifi, for example), when I come back to the flight screen the video feed is black. I have to restart the controller, the drone or both. This is not something I can contend with on a regular basis. If anyone has a fix for this I'd greatly appreciate the info.

I sometimes find I have the black screen issue when I return from my flight, land, power down the drone, change the battery, and power on the drone....without touching the smart controller.

Yesterday in the middle of a fligth my smart controller screen went black. I press RTH and works and once the drone was on the floor i rebooted and went back to normal but this was scary.

I'm having the same issue.
Just purchased the controller, and freaked out when I saw a grey screen.
After rebooting several times, it started working again, but only for a few times.
It seems if I get out of the fancy start up screen, and open the Go-Fly app manually it works.

you can try to refresh your software but honestly, I don't think it will help.  you'll likely continue to get the black screen from time to time.  but I don't understand what's the problem with flyer, why are you afraid to use your less-than-perfect scm with your expensive equipment?

OK, I got it to work, finally!
But the problem still persists...
So far, the best workaround, for me anyway, is to get out of the quick start screen, and run the app from the Android home screen.
I really do hope a fix will be in the next firmware update.

that's not a workaround and this issue is not going to be fixed In the next firmware update.  you must think the scm just launched earlier this year?

This isn't my first rodeo with a forum, and can see that this subject isn't a priority.
It's sad to pay so much money for a controller that's flawed so badly out of the box, that DJI just ignores customers who are having issues.
Looks like a return is in the future, which stinks, because I ordered the Mavic 2 Pro without a controller.
One thing I'll be doing is reach out ot customer service, instead of trying to get answers here. Hopefully there will be either a firmware update, or they'll replace it.

the scm is not perfect but it's pretty good actually.  me and thousands of others are enjoying it immensely; sorry you are having so much heartburn over it

After spending over an hour with an awesome support specialist troubleshooting, I'll be sending the controller and Mavick 2 Pro in to see what's causing the issue.
I'm sure the problem will be resolved, and I'll be up and flying soon!
I'll keep this thread updated as to what happens.
The Smart controller is awesome! It's just a shame that I got one that doesn't want to properly communicate with the drone.

After chatting with a support specialist, it was determined that the SCM and drone should be sent in for proper inspection and troubleshooting.
I love the SCM! It's just bad luck that I got one that has some kind of issue.
I can't wait to get up and flying soon!

I was being snarky, LOL!
While it works fine in line of sight flight, it stinks that I can't see what the camera is seeing.
I can tell that the camera is working fine, I just can't see what it's seeing.
I even took some photos and video, and it works fine, I just can't monitor what the camera is recording.
I'm sending the pair back to be inspected, fixed, and or replaced.
So far, DJIs customer service is awesome!
I'm more frustrated than anything right now...

to solve the problem, first access the smartcontroller and start the dji go 4, then access the drone. you'll see that it doesn't happen to you anymore.

But then it was a total crap shoot as to if it kept working.
I went to fly it, and the grey screen returned. I tried rebooting, but after several attempts, I just brought it back inside. It was also getting ready to rain, so I just put it away.
This setup is awesome! And I know that once it's all sorted, it'll help me produce some awesome videos of Eastern Kentucky.

I think you might have a different problem than most.  I have the problem on startup I would estimate about 1 out of 10 times but I have never experiences a blackout during flight.

Well, got my drone and SC back a few days ago, and all seemed well, until it grey screened again.
Admittedly, it only did it once, and after the new firmware update, all is well.
So far so good, and it really makes me think it really was a firmware issue.
Been carefully flying around, getting the hang of flying, and loving it!
It's sooo quiet! And the controls are awesome! It's not going to take long to really get the hang of this thing, and start getting some awesome footage!

With my latest firmware update, I had the gray video feed! After downgrading to the previous stable version, with dji assistant 2 I solved the problem.
