Hello everybody,i think i am very lucky.
I was chasing a boat in spotlight mode about 400 meters from the coast .
I wanted to come as close as i can , but by my mistake i get very very close !
When it hit to the mast , i expected to sink into the sea .
To my surprise it stayed in the air . I waited some seconds to realize what happens and i bring it home .
I land and examined it but the drone did not have a little scratch .
It was my first crash after 5 years fliyng drones .
Do you think i was lucky ?

I can only say bleep bleeepety bleep! Yeah, I think you should buy a lottery ticket. I've never crashed mine properly, only hit a wall once indoors, it bounced off, flipped, stopped over and dropped in accordance with the laws of gravity. You had some speed as well there.

Yes I will buy a lottery ticket!
It only hit the camera because when I bring it back it was not straight.

And I thought I was flying recklessly when following boats! Now I can obviously be even more so....cool! I am beginning to think these MA2's are unsinkable. Mine almost went in it, another's skimmed the surface and now this.

If it hits something like this in bigger than three meters it can restore its position. It has good restore behavior

Hi MOSES B., did you receive warning for any obstacle? Why drone did't bypass it and make a contact?

I agree, you were LUCKY!  Looks to me like you actually hit the furled foresail on the forestay, a much "softer" target than the metal mast would have been.  Hitting the metal mast would likely have broken a prop.

Glad you got your drone back!

Do you know why the obstacle detection didn't either stop the drone or go around it.. Were you in sport mode

Yep, that's what happened. Deflected off the furled Dacron sail.

No i did not receive any warning and i was not in sport mode.
I think it was my fault but the drone acted a little bit strange to come too cloose to the target.

You got no warning because your drone doesn't have any sensors on the sides.
The sensors face forwards but you were flying sideways.

Definitively lucky recovery from bad situation! Maybe the speed of a boat made hard to follow and track?

Hello there MOSES B.. Thank you for reaching out and for sharing this flight experience that you had. That was a close call. Since this unwated incident happened and if you feel that the said drone is not preforming well on your future flights. I would recommend to contact our DJI support team at  https://www.dji.com/support for further assistance and for us to be able to check the said drone thoroughly for damages. Thats what I was getting ready to ask, if he either owned the boat or if the captain knew of the activity. I'm sure he was well aware of the incident though. Above all, just glad no one or anything was hurt!!

If you didn't know the boat owner it would be in very poor taste to be flying that close to his boat.  Stuff like that gives drone owners a bad name - and fuels rules and laws restricting our flying.
And I am glad your MA2 survived.

Can't begin to tell you the number of times I crashed my Phantom. The first time I thought my heart was going to stop. Once I lost it due to interference as I was filming a parade for the city. Holy mackerel, I thought it was the end of me. Good recovery!

I was told that if I ever fly into anything I should change the props before flying again.

Not sure if it is necessary but it sounds like good advice,

Lucky or stupid? Cause fly that low that you are able to hit the pole and put others in danger so you can get a close up shot. No one should be flying that low near people. This is why drones are becoming more and more restricted with laws. I remember when drones first came out anyone can fly it how they want cause it was look at like a kids toy. Now drones have more laws and regulations than cars.
