That's remarkable, so many horses just ranging anywhere. Are they truly wild, or just herds free-ranging to be rounded up later? I saw a few gates and fences. Thanks for the share.
Actually, these are "feral," not wild. Mustangs are descended from horses brought to America by the Spanish, which makes them feral rather than wild. They tend to overpopulate their habitat, so the U.S. Bureau of Land Management captures excess. They can be adopted directly from the bureau, and are popular for riding horses, but there is not much demand for riding horses, so many of them go to farms and ranches where there is space to keep them.
