It was designated as Busan Monument No. 22 on June 26, 1972 and was designated as National Cultural Heritage No. 24 on October 1, 2007. It has an area of 0.02km2 and a maximum point of 68m (Gulseom). It has been the symbol of Busan since ancient times. Facing the tides of Yeongdo-gu, six rocky islands stretch side by side to the southeast from Seungdu-mal, north of the Busan Bay.

These islands are divided into shield islands (2,166m2) and Solseom islands (5,505m2), Suri islands (5,313m2), Songgot islands (2,073m2), Gul islands (9,716m2) and Lighthouse islands (3,416m2). It is small and has a sharp shape, and it has the largest and largest oyster. Lighthouse Island, which is the furthest away from land, was also called Field Island because of its flatness, but it has been called Lighthouse Island since it was built. Except for Lighthouse Island, all others are uninhabited.

According to the "Dongnaebuji" Sancheonjo, which was compiled in 1740, the name of the island originated from the fact that it was six peaks in the east and five peaks in the west. It is said that the theory originated from the fact that the lower part of Shield Island and Solseom Island were almost attached, making them look like one island when the tide was low, and two islands when the tide was flowing, which was misrepresented by the Japanese in the 19th century.

According to the formation process of the island, it was a small peninsula connected to the land until 120,000 years ago, but was separated from the land due to the erosion of strong waves over the years. This is also evidenced by the fact that the geological composition of Shield Island and Sol Island adjacent to the land equator is the same. It is said that long ago, sailors passing by the island gave a feast to the sea god to pray for the safety of the voyage, as the tide was so fast that the sea route was dangerous.
