Kopaonik (also known as Srebrna planina) is the largest mountain massif in Serbia, stretching from northwest to southeast for about 75 km, reaching a width of about 40 km in the middle part. One part of it is a protected zone called the Kopaonik National Park, within which there is a large number of protected natural units, and it also houses the largest ski center in Serbia. Its highest peak is Pančićev vrh with 2017 m above sea level. on which is the mausoleum of the famous Serbian naturalist after whom it was named, around when the base of the Serbian army is located. The entire massif was named after the great mineral wealth that has been exploited on it since the Middle Ages, and in its wider area there are a number of cultural and historical monuments from the period from the 12th to the 15th century. Thanks to the developed tourist center with modern hotels and accompanying facilities, Kopaonik is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Serbia.
