Perched on the hill of La Muela, over the Ebro pass and the road from Vadillo, dominated by the only entrance to the city, the castle of Frías maintains a curious characteristic, the set of the keep is located on a rock separated from the rest of the construction with its own defenses and cistern. This rock has had several landslides, there are at least three documented, which have altered its structure.
At the foot of the homage complex there is a quadrangular enclosure formed by high crenellated walls with a walkway and round towers at the outer corners. In the enclosure was the parade ground, under which there is a large cistern with a central well, and to the sides were the buildings destined for residence in the south, you can still see the windows adorned by historiated capitals, and for auxiliary uses ( warehouses, warehouses, stables, etc ...) to the north.
Access was via a drawbridge that spanned a moat dug into the rock, behind it an ante-door and in the middle of the wall the door protected by the door tower defense systems. (Wikipedia)
