It's many years since I first visited Lassay les Chateaux. The town lies in a depression rather than a valley, and its central chateau is to a large extent hidden by tall, mature trees to two sides and by the town to the east. A guided tour proved fascinating. The elderly guide, who to me was the French equivalent of ( and a dead ringer for) the British celebrity steeplejack Fred Dibnah, had lived most of his life in the chateau, having been born into service, as his mother worked as a maid in the .... there. He needed little encouragement to show us the workings of the drawbridge and allowed a couple of us to work the mechanism. It was a heavy lift, even with the pulley system. Back then, the roofwork was in a sorry state, and renovation work has been going on ever since (hence the scaffolding on one tower)
There are two points from which a good drone approach can be made and, with the Zoom facility of the M2Z, reasonable images can be obtained without transgressing the NFZ.

Thanks AJ.  It's known as Lassay LES Chateaux (plural) as there are actually three castles in the immediate area. But the other two are little more than ruins or foundations.  I may have a look at those another time.
We had a great day out there, just yesterday. It's about a 45 minute drive from us.

We had a our share of thunderstorms and heavy downpours of rain ( which was great for the farmers) but it has been a hot and dry summer on the whole.  A good growing season.

Here in NL we had a huge water shortage on certain areas.
It was getting to a point where farmers were not allowed to irrigate their lands.

We don't have that.
We are used to having a lot of water so never needed that.

With the onset of Global warming ontop of everything else, drought conditions may become more frequent with each passing year
