The other day I talked about editing images to make them look, well like anything you want actually.
It sparked my inspiration and I went on about doing a series of images that 'could' (with a little bit of imagination) have been taken years and years back.
The edits are made with the NIK collection and a combination of multiple filters

First one is one of my favorite drone shots of mine and was taken at the paper factory in Billingsfors (Sweden).
You almost smell the coal being burned to power the steam engines in the factory

2018-08-04_211906_0173_HDR.jpg
Next is an old drawbridge close to where I live.
It looks exactly as many years ago (apart from some modern details of course)

2018-06-26_20-42-47 0170.jpg

The third edit is the old railway station of Bengtsfors (Sweden)
This is actually owned by a 'museum' railway company so the image could have been taken years ago also.
The colors are heavily altered by the filters to mimic the old Kodak film type

2018-08-05_213352_0227_HDR.jpg

The 4th edit is a bit more 'modern' (late 90's I would say) and taken at Billingsfors.
You have to look really closely to spot modern details that don't fit in that era.

2018-08-08_085838_0003.jpg

Edit nr 5 is taken in Emmen at a site breaths 'history' and (luckily) is in use again.

2019-01-24 1525 Emmen.jpg

Nr 6 is a nice crossing of a road and railroad at Twello looking in the direction of Deventer.
I used a combination of filters to mimic the early photography style and beause of the hight the image was taken, there are little 'modern' details to ruin that illusion.

2019-05-01_21-03-28 0239 HDR Deventer.jpg

For nr 7 I used a different approach. This panoramic image was taken at Eys (Limburg) and shows the museum  railway 'De Miljoenenlijn'
I made it black and white with a lot of ISO noise and added the contrast to mimic the cheaper film I would have used back then.

20190710 Pano Limburg 02.jpg

Edit nr 8 was taken on the same location as nr 7, but facing the other direction.
Here we see an old (Swedish actually) steam engine that is used in their museum railway.
The edit is probably dated around the mid '90 where the only 'modern' touch is the concrete sleepers in the bottom left corner and the 2 cyclists that are wearing modern clothes.

20190710 ZLSM 1040 EysWittem.jpg

Nr 9 is one of my top 5 drone shots.
Taken in Dals Ed (Sweden) and with the lucky addition of some sun rays that decided to appear just as I was taking my AEB 5 portrait panorama stacks
The edit is much more vignetted to draw the attention to the center part of the frame. |
Too bad they took down some of the old railway buildings a couple of years earlier, but that is just inside information most viewers won't have.

Dals Ed 2018-08-08_192812_0068 HDR Ed.jpg

Nr 10 is a famous location in Sweden called Håverud.
This is where a waterway, road and railroad cross and an old paper mill is used as exhibition location for various things.
Not much has changed since many many years so the image could easily have been taken in the '50s

Haverud 2018-08-06_204244_0154_HDR.jpg

Image nr 11 was taken at Långbron (Sweden), also along the DVVJ museum railway.
I chose a mid '90s color edit that reminds me of the images I took in exactly that location (without a drone unfortunately) in those years.
It was a time when you really had to think before pressing the shutter because every capture had to be developed!

LangBron 2018-08-04_204112_0050.jpg

And finally an image taken from Laxå and was heavily edited to mimic an old aerial image.
A lot has changed in the last 10 years, but for those who don't know the site, this image could have easily been taken many many years ago.

Laxa 2018-07-30_220448_0157_2018-07-30_220508_0158-2 images.jpg

I really liked the process of editing these shots and hope it can inspire others to come up with their own ideas and edits!

Thanks man.
Just re discovered the NIK plugin suite that was (for some years) free for download because it was acquired by Google.

It is strange how threads for digest are chosen. I remember having a very, very average photo put in there before yet some of my best work left. I think you need to add a lot of info around it in the description and create a kind of story with what settings etc you used. I'd rather just fly my drone

That slightly sepia look and the vignetting make it look VERY dated. Great effect, Monty.

It's subjective, isn't it.  Like you, I've posted stuff in the past that I've been really proud of, and had hardly a comment. And yet other stuff I was less pleased with gets raves.  Personal taste of the individual.

Very much so mate - I have threads of leaves on a ground marked in favourites, zillions of likes and placed in digest then I take some stills of stunning sunsets over the sea looking back towards historic coast lines and towns and get one comment. I think it also has something to do with promoting new products that has just been released to entice sales.

Also a lot of the old names who used the forum regularly have long since disappeared for one reason or another so you lose those connections. I'm amazed I'm still on here TBH. I said I'd stop at 20,000 points LOL
