I have just finished upgrading one of my Smart Controllers to the new firmware. No issues doing the update though it did take some time to go up from 1%.
Using DJI Assistant 2 on an iMac Pro.

Note that you are required to power down the SC and on again before you can Link (Bind) to the Air 2.

The original controller no longer links to the Ai r2. I have not tried dual controls by attempting to bind it again.

Both Goggles now work and provide the same output as the SC screen by connecting it to the Smart Controllers HDMI output. (Correct cable comes with the Goggles)

This should also mean that the goggles will have the same range as the SC.

Happy Flying.

anything plugged into the hdmi out on the scm will "work" including a simple monitor. this was accomplished in a previous sw update.   this means the goggles will display the scm but it doesn't necessarily means the goggles work with the ma2.  have you tried to control the ma2 with the goggles?  if you can turn your head left and right and move the ma2 then it "works" otherwise it doesn't.

Yes, to be pedantic head tracking only works when googles are connected to the Goggles Air Units. Partial tracking is available as the secondary controller for a camera operator. But only allows camera Yaw / Tilt as far as I am aware.

The SCM would not link to the Mavic Air 2 so did not work with the goggles.

The latest FW update that allows it to link to the Air 2 allows Google usage.

Thank you for your comment.

Cheers

How do you bind the goggles with the Mavic Air 2 without the smart controller? Where comes the picture from?

When you say Mavic 2 do you mean Mavic Air 2?

The Mavic 2 Zoom and Pro supports the goggles natively by binding to the drone. Goggles RE and Goggles White. The FPV goggles will only bind to the FPV air units.

Mavic Mini 2 has no support at the moment.

Yes I mean Mavic Air 2.
DJI have an issue with product differentiation here. It's an easy mistake to make.

There have been contradictory posts in this thread. Is it possible to connect goggles to the Mavic Air 2? If so; do they have full function? I know this is an older thread, but I'd like to purchase a Mavic Air 2, if I can use the goggles.  thank you in advance.

unfortunately buying the dji ma2 and the dji goggles hoping they will work together is a waste of time and money at this point.  nothing has changed since last year.

They work together if you have the smart controller.

You don't. As I wrote above you connect to the Smart-controller. You use the HDMI output port on the SC and connect it to the HDMI in on the Goggles. The required cable is already shipped with the goggles.
