Hi,

Before I bought the Osmo Pocket, I was using my old Nikon D3100 DSLR. It was able to take 3 photos per second (14.2 megapixels) and film 1080p at 24fps.

After I bought Osmo Pocket, it just too good at taking photos (12 megapixels) and film 4K at 60fps, at an amazing 100 Mbps bitrate.

One thing that came to my mind was if I take photos of a fast car with my DSLR, the car usually is out of frame, because the camera was just too slow to capture that fast object. The Osmo Pocket can't capture that many photos too but it's able to capture 4K at 60fps. What if I take a video of the fast object, then on the PC I save frames from that video? What are the advantages and disadvantages of taking photos from a 4K 60fps video?

The ones I suspected:

Advantages:
  • I can take 60 photos per second by recording like this
  • I can record as D-Cinelike so I have more ability to post-process the photo

Disadvantages:
  • It's not a RAW file, it will be JPG
  • It's not 4000x3000 but instead 3840x2160 (still good I think)
  • It's not good at low-light (but why should I capture fast objects at night)

What do you guys think about this? Is it a good idea or bad idea?

Thanks.

I would run some tests and then compare all your results. Since it won't be the RAW file you have a lot of post processing abilities but it might turn out pretty good.
