Hi All

This may be a bit of a silly question but how do I/ is it possible to zoom in whilst recording or taking stills? [with a P3 Pro]

You don't.

The P3 does not have a zoom lens.
Neither does a P2.

Neither does a GoPro.

Just fly closer to zoom.

The P3 optics are fixed focal length (20mm in 35 mm frame format) it is not possible to zoom.

Would anyone be so kind to post an example of a crop zoom?  I would really love to see a pic or a video that has been edited for zoom

crop is only useful when filming in 4K. But one thing should be noted, when you zoom 4K material, it will get a bit more shaky. On a wide angled lens the shakes will not look dramtical but a zoomed in video will look a bit less stable.

I was flying the drone straight but also zooming the video within the 1280x720 frame. The scale goes from approximately 35% to 97% over the course of the clip making the mountain look significantly larger then if I had left it full frame.

Edit: I did this within Premeire Pro CC 2015. Build a sequence the size you want (1280x720 or 1080x1920) then import the full size video. Tell PP that you want to keep the sequence setting, not change the sequence to match the video.

Yes, you may Zoom in with your Phantom, just by the act of moving it up closer to your subject.
Trial and error... It seems too simple, but it takes plenty of practice, to do it with a slow approach.
Practice with your subject closer to you, and get used to how objects appear larger on the screen.
With time, you will learn, to automatically know your relative distance or nearness to your target.

I love my Nikkor zoom lenses, and don't know, where my photography would be without them.
But with my Phantom, "Practice makes perfect", my music teacher always instilled this, in his students...

Ok I get the "right thumb stick" jokes even though they are old and unoriginal. But when people like RedHotPoker write a book about flying techniques even though it has nothing to do with my original question and I have been flying 3D RC Helis for years it just gets annoying. I'm strictly talking digitally editing pics and videos to crop in zoom. This is mainly because when I am out scouting game / animal photographing I do not want to fly up near them for obvious reasons.  Thank you everyone who posted helpful information.

You don't.

The P3 does not have a zoom lens.

Got all excited the other day. Friend sent me a link to a site that had a 36x zooming camera - selling for something just over $70 before shipping.

Excitement waned somewhat when I discovered it's essentially a security IR camera. In the slightest hint of low light, it shifts to B&W. Still, it seems cheap enough to experiment.
