Today entered the FCC database, a DJI product called Camera Drone.

maVIMIni2001.jpg

In the "Label" section, the name Camera Drone appears and in the place where this label will be pasted, the design of the back of the Mavic Mini upside down ...
The first observation is the battery, 7.7V 2250mAh, which is different from the version of the Mini that we know is 7.4V 2400mAh.

... would it be the Mavic Mini 2?

I am not a profound connoisseur of what goes through the head of DJI, perhaps the goal of the Mavic Mini since its launch was to be a fun drone, that could be taken wherever you want, that was light and did not need registration in the aviation and transportation agencies most countries. In Brazil, drones up to 250gr do not need to be registered, but it is the gross take-off weight that counts, that is, your weight plus accessories that you can carry, such as propeller protectors, which also makes it registered ... I believe that some countries go through this same problem and the lighter or heavier battery is the solution: it may be that in India to reach the ideal weight, it reached a standard battery, as in Japan, to reach 199 grams of total weight. It's just a theory.

So the label goes inside the battery cavity cover? Interesting that the existing label starts with MT1 and this one starts with MT2

IMHO it's a bad indication for any existing mini owners., I cant see DJI adding any new features (AEB, Panorama etc) to the MM1 as they will want people to upgrade

Well, it is a bit mixed.
First of all DJI often adds functionality to the app. So they can choose to make stuff available for multiple drone types. They have done this in the past (new flight modes etc).

But, usually they stop adding features after some period since the release date (and the MM is already 1 year old, so there is not much to be expected from that part)
So I don't think it will have any impact on new features for the MM, since DJI usually does not add a lot anyway after 1 year.
Especially for the entry drone I think the MM is already well packed with features (some were added afterwards)

And I think it will be later that month if you follow the same FCC inclusion schedule for the launch of Mavic Air 2.

Im betting Mavic Mini 2.

I do too, but I think it might be released under a new name, for example "Camera Drone model MT2" like OM4 (Osmo Mobile 4) or RSC2 (Ronin SC2)...

I don't think so. The existing MM1 label is not the same size and profile. It is short and wide and has a different layout. The label in the image is taller and narrower (more square) and would not fit in the existing MM1 battery cavity.

This is a bigger battery, the mini is 7.4 and this is 7.7. could be why...

It's interesting though, I doubt they will be able to add bigger things like that and still keep under 249g.

Time will tell...

Not necessarily a bigger battery, it is higher voltage (7.7 vs 7.4), although less overall current (2250 vs 2400MaH) size could be the same or smaller.

I wonder if this will be more of a camera to get a picture and not something to manually fly. Like a one button to take off, quick shot and land kind of device.

Thanks for the feedback, that would be very interesting, but that would not change the design for cost reasons if they want to keep the same price as the Mavic Mini MT1. I believe that the size of the battery should not change, as we have seen many examples on the market, such as 1.2 "and 1.5V" AA "batteries, which are exactly the same size ...

Perhaps the name "Camera Drone" is a new nomenclature that DJI will use in its products, adopting the minimalist advice, as it sits on the Osmo line (Osmo Mobile 4 = OM4), what today is called Mavic Mini, maybe it's called future Camera Drone MT2 or DJI MT2. It's just a guess

I think that this has confused a lot of people.

They are changing from LiOn batteries to LiPo batteries.

The capability of the batteries needs to be measured in Watt Hours not mah Hours.

Ohms Law P=VI means that the original battery is: 17.76 Watt Hours the new battery is 17.33 Watt Hours. So much the same capability.

The big difference is the motors KV this means that the motors on low battery power will actually spin faster and most likely correct the not enough power prop warnings.

Instead of increased output, the battery change might be about reducing its weight - maybe making 'room' for collision sensors that would allow safe(ish) tracking within the 249g.

It's possible, none of the current pictures show the front. It would be a nice update I agree.
