PS, I bought the MC 707 yesterday from a guy. Rather cheap.
Picked it up in Nijmegen (about 1h driver from where I live)
So I 'must' spend time on it soon

Indeed! After 4 years, 2 months flying 12 drones 2,500 miles without any outdoor incident it finally happened...

Thought I would do a final manual orbit around the deer herd at the end of my last flight and didn't think the single tree stood there just 500' in front of me was in the trajectory of the flight path. The screen started to fuzz so I thought it was a transmission error then I released the drone had crashed and due to an 'attitude error' so I thought it was an IMU failure.

I set 'find my drone' and as I walked towards it I saw the flashing red LED's on my drone under the tree then the realisation of what I did hit me - another set of props I thought only to see the camera hanging off the drone by a wire, the arms cracked and the motors buggered.

I contacted my local DJI dealer and after describing the damage he advised I'll be better off buying a new base kit and selling the new RC and battery to salvage some of the cost! My first and only crash - total pilot error and wow - what a stupid one to make! But I rate that drone so much I will buy another. Thank God it wasn't a Mavic 2 Pro - losing £500 is easier than losing a over a grand though the side sensors on the M2P would have stopped the crash anyway!

Oh man. I feel for you.
It is a classic pilot error and one I will be making one day for sure.
I almost had it once, but luckily was flying sideways over water and noticed 'land' appearing on the map and could stop before anything too bad happened. (just some minor marks on the props)

If I was 5' higher or in Tripod mode or if I focused on the drone (which was obviously in clear VLOS) rather than the shoot it would never have happened. After flying that drone more than 50 hours the crash took literally 4 seconds... Costly error and of all the things to happen - it's the sort of mistake a total noob makes. So angry with myself to say the least. Time to buy another and learn from it!

I think this is what can happen when you have a lot of experience.
A brain can only focus on one thing at once so it will likely lose track of things that are 'automated'.
You focused on the flying part and forgot about checking the drone.....
I have been lucky so far.
