Now that's proper recycling.

100% is.
They saved about € 600,- just in wood.

Yeah man. This makes for super nice wood.
I have salvaged 2 floors and still use that wood.

Very true,  but here they would measure it and say it wasn't up to the regulation.

Ah ok.
I'm not aware of such regulations here.
As long as the wood is solid an the right dimensions you are good to go.

I used some once to make a coffee table.

Cool!
I made many things already from scrap wood.
Photo shelves, book shelves, potting table, windowsills, coat racks, shoe bench and so on.
Starting to look like my next hobby if I sum it up like that

On of my hobbys is wood work,   I have a lathe, CNC, and a full kitted out workshop.  I make and repair lots of stuff.

As the trees have got quicker to grow the dimensions of the required tiber here has increased,  so 60 years ago the trees grew more naturally and were stronger per inch than they are now,  you can usually see it in how tight the grain is now to older wood.

Oh nice.
I really love making stuff.
So far I have not invested in much equipment, but I'm considering it.
It is so nice to see the end result!

Exactly. Much more growth rings in the older ones.
It is actually quite sad to see how soft the new stuff became.

Ive been experimenting with dating trees without cutting them down,  its quite fascinating working out how old an oak tree is.

Oh nice, how can you do that?

You measure the circumference of the tree(in cm) at 1.5m from the ground then multiple a constant for the species,  an oak is 1.88.

Interesting.
But that assumes every tree (of a specie) grows in the same rate?
Since I would say the surroundings have an influence on that too.

No. Each tree has its own constant. I just used oak as an example.

But what if (for example) one oak grows in a dry area and the other has better conditions. Will they still 'expand' in the same way (constant)?

For oaks if they are too outside the usual moisture levels they die early.  For other species I’m not sure.

For the older trees it’s amazing what they saw and how many people they touched.

Every time I take my usual walk, I come past a birch tree that was on a picture of the former railroad in our town.
It was just a very small seedling on that picture (1971).
You can still see a marking of the wire that it was growing against in those days.
