I know the P1 is announced, if I had this from the start I wouldn't have bought the H20T. However, is the H20T usable for mapping ?



Are there any alternatives that anyone on this forum is using ?

Hi André, the Zenmuse H20 Series was not designed specifically to meet the accuracy requirements for aerial surveying, but you can use the wide-angle camera to capture images in Mapping missions in the DJI Pilot App.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yesterday I was trying the features Mission planning 'Waypoints' and 'Live Recording' (for the first time). None of them works neither in GPS-mode nor in RTK-mode. The Pilot app just shuts down after a while.
Any suggstions ?

Not pretty, but fast. Created from only 12 pictures with the wide angle camera.

It is not something you present to a customer. However, it is something that an emergency manager is interested in to get an overview of a terrain / accident site / fire.

Fly higher and use wide. Zoom requires custom setup and is tricky for mapping but less so at higher AGL. Try swapping height and width of image size, more consistent with mapping path and better results.

We have been unsuccessful with mapping below 80m. Due to custom cam setup, still in testing. Thermal also challenging at lower than 80m. We only use zoom for manual inspection. Also, during mapping only save what you need. We have seen delay in image save with multiple types causing gaps. We use wide or zoom and thermal only, not all 3 and never view.

I have the custom camera setup for the H20T (can't wait for the P1) what heights do you recommend and overlap to get the detail you have in this sample?

Someone from DJI Dealer in Shenzhen told me that SHARE UAV 102S professional mapping camera is perfect for aerial photogrammetry with M300 RTK.  It has 5 lens and uses oblique photogrammetry.  The web site is: http://www.shareuavtec.com


The Dealer also told me that Zenmuse H20 series is not specifically designed for high-precision aerial photogrammetry.


I am still trying to get more information from the Dealer.

Hi did you use the Pilot. Can you program the flight and take pics with zoom 2 or 3 times?

I have demand to map some heat pipes. Is h20T good solution for it or should i chose XT2 or XTS? I also need to make orthophoto with RGB camera.

Hi I tried some mapping with the H20T wide (as preset in the Pilot App) and this was the result in Px4D.
The street is as flat as ca be. Not so in the picture, can this be corrected without flying again ?

I have tried mapping using the H20T. I have yet to be able to tell the Pilot app that I only want to use the Zoom camera. I have unchecked the boxes in the camera settings but it always takes pictures with both cameras. The wide camera is absolutely unusable. It is a total waste of time. The Zoom camera has a much better sensor and could be used to map with. WHY does DJI not offer the ability to choose the Zoom camera when mapping? The wide and thermal camera is visible in the settings but not the Zoom. I have experimented with setting up a custom camera but have not had any luck. Has anyone attempted setting a custom camera that would match the Zoom? It would also help if the settings on the zoom would not default to 2x zoom. Why not 1x? It would be easier to match the sensor if trying to configure a custom camera. Luckily I did not buy the H20T to map with. When I purchased the M300 I knew the P1 and L1 would be available which helped me to make my buying decision but I guess this has to do more with marketing.

Yes I used pilot. There's no option to set the zoom but as long as you set it before the autonomous flight it should remember the setting. 2x seems to be best and make sure the speed isn't too high or you'll get some nasty motion blur on the zoomed images.

It was a little while ago but I think I was around 50m about the structure here. I used the roof for take-off so overlap ratios were calculated from roof level not ground.

I can't remember exactly but the overlap ratios were around 80% all over. Hope this helps!

hi all, we have many issues with H20T mapping flight where zoom lens is used.WHat happens is that the zoom levels are changed during the flight. from X2 zoom it suddenly changes during the flight to X5. Absolutely crazy issue accross all pilots.

NeoGreg12 …i just came across your response to this post. Are you saying you used images from the zoom camera to produce these models in terra? I am trying to think of alternatives if my partner is using our P1. Not sure if I’d be better off flying a phantom. Just curious

Never mind, I get what you're saying, in the camera setting.... At first I thought you mean't like a customized H20T camera.

I can only speak for the H20 that I use for other things.
My experience is that absolutely ALL photos are NOT good for photogametry, because there is always a lens distortion correction included.
With my combination of M300 and Pilot App I cannot switch this off.
In addition, you have to do a rolling shutter correction.
It may be enough for "respectable" photogammetry, but I need evaluable and reliable results.

But I'm happy to be proven wrong!

Was this taken with an h20t on the m300? Pretty great quality considering the sensor.
