Heathrow (one of the busiest airports in the world) is 7-8 miles to the west of the flying field. Amazing that the local authorities decided to put a drone field there but it's safe enough as long as you stay within the marked field and VLOS and is far more than 5KM from the centre of the airport so totally legal.  

There must have been 30 planes that landed during the time I was there. The Queen also travels by chopper between Windsor castle and Buckingham Palace over the park but a TFR is put in place before that happens.

We have a ring of 15 km around Schiphol. So that is a bit more (not too much actually)

I tend to agree, but you don't want a fly away to end up in an engine and most DJI drones can easily get to 5km.
So maybe a bit more margin is ok.

There is that and whilst I would have laughed at that before I can now tell you from personal experience how anything can go wrong with a drone.

Some time ago we had an inspire from the police ending up several km's further on a pavement (no injuries  luckily) because it was out of control.
Little chance, but you don't want a 747 crash because of that.....

There is an airport in NL (Twente) that specializes in demolishing these old birds.
So many last flights are to Twente
