Magic mini.flew out to sea about a km away,lost connection.rth to 7 minutes to initiate.the video shows it hovering for 7 minutes.any ideas?

Thanks so much for the reply.I was flying at a height of 100m.the flight data has 7minutes missing when it lost connection.I switched off controller and switched back on then reconnected .the video shows it stop in flight for 7 minutes before turning round to fly home.

Without a log it is only guessing what have happend.

Hi Stephen,

Bit surprised by your writing.... a drone doesn`t know if it is flying above water or not!

Within range the visual position (for a MM only the bottom sensor) will work only if there is enough light and enough reference AND if the GPS is not functioning, this when flying over land, water, over any surface.  GPS not working than into OPTI mode ; so MM is stabilized by use of the bottom sensor.

So flying above water with a good GPS 'connection', no problem!  The only time a MM gets into trouble over water if flying at low speed / hover over moving water...then the bottom positioning will affect drone keeping position performance.

DAT file from drone cannot be read, use the flightlog.txt wich is saved on your mobile device.

At 9:28.8 your Mini came back online with this message:  Downlink Restored (after 6m 57.4s)
Your Mini lost its downlink but not the uplink from the controller to the drone.
It was on the edge of losing signal but not quite there and you still had control if you had used the joysticks or initiated RTH from the controller.
The Mini was just hovering and waiting for you.
Eventually it lost signal fully and initiated RTH itself.

Interesting flight...

The only thing i can think off is that you lost only the downlink, but RC still in connection with your MM.

Your RTH height setting is 109 meters, when you lost connection your MM was flying at a height of 103 meters.  But when connected again, RTH in progress,  MM was flying at a height of 114.7 meters.

MM will climb to the RTH setting but not 5 meter higher. So imo only possible when the RC did steer it up, by you on the RC stick.
Happily you started this flight with enough battery juice....so it could hover for 417 seonds!

When it was connected again your MM was in RTH mode and had already flown back from 1000 meters to 962 meters, speed 8 m/s.
So about 5 seconds before connected again it was in RTH mode.

What did you noticed on the screen during those 7 minutes?

Dd you made a screen recording of this flight?

PS read your last post ; Always use the RTH button on your RC, this will work if only downlink is gone....(ofcourse switching off RC works too)

Switching off the controller caused loss of signal which triggered RTH.
When in doubt, switching the controller off is a good way to ensure the drone will be coming home.

would be nice to see that screen recording for this flight,  why ??

In the GoApp when the downlink / video link is gone, data is still visible on the 360 compass.
If you aware of that you can fly craft back home without seeing the live video....
So curious what is seen on your screen recording.

His flight data shows the Failsafe Action was set to Go Home.
But we already knew that since the drone started returning home when the controller was switched off and full signal was lost.

I don't know if it's related to the loss of your signal, but I noticed that it also started rth when it was 1000m from HP.
Did you set the distance limit to 1000m before you started your flight?
I'm lifting this because I faced a situation once when I got to 120 m high when i suddenly lost my video signal and coincidentally I had set the height limit to 120 m as well.
In my case, my MM started rth after 11 s after the signal was lost and as it wasn't too far away, the control quickly reconnected when my MM was above me.

You recieve warning like "max flight altitude (or distance) reached" and on screen number goes red. You can not go farther or higher, but it won't initiate RTH AFAIK.

Yep, I have received the notification that I've reached the limit and just after that, I have lost the video signal... and after 11 s, it started the RTH. It happened only once, but it was concerning.
