Mavic 2 Pro exploded during the operation. On the way back to home suddenly it turned off, a fell from 15-20m on a cliff, then exploded and completely burned. The battery was on 75% and the device was fully operational. There was a problem with connectivity (that is way it tried to reach back home). I put ND filter on it for the first time, yet I guess it had nothing to do with the incident. Any similar experience to share?

Never seen anything like that! How old was the drone? Did you have DJI Care Refresh?  Maybe DJI can help.  Maybe.

It is 2-year old drone, I guess not that old. No DJI Care Refresh. Hope DJI might help.

Hello there Dragisa. I am sorry to see and to know what happened to your DJI Mavic 2 Pro and thank you for reaching out. This is not the experience that we want you to have with DJI and with your DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Since this unfortunate issue happened to the said DJI Drone. It would be best to contact out DJI Support Team for further assistance at https://www.dji.com/support?site=brandsite&from=nav . Again, I am sorry for the incident and thank you for your understanding.

WOW, could that be a battery that caused this. With all the battery swelling posts going around and one on YouTube about the battery catching fire it could be possible. even though 2 years old Dji needs to come to the party here, no way this could be attributed to pilot fault

If the incident happened as described, it's only going to show the data stopping with the drone in the air.
It lost power as the battery contact was broken and the fire was a result of the battery being damaged in the crash onto rocks.

The log .dat files off the controller for this would be VERY interesting.
Certainly to see if there was any indication of a battery issue before it dropped.

Dude, are you sure that was a M2P? I've seen one before stripped from the plastic casing but this one doesn't quite resemble the layout. What are those 2 roundish things connected to the board that looks like they contain batteries?

Thats pretty scary. Thankfully it landed on rocks and not a dry grass field or a house. Seems DJI is going to look into it. Hope you get a new unit and get flying again.

So if this thing caused harm to someone or damage to property, who would be held liable? The drone operator?
What will it take for DJI to step up and take responsibility for that troublesome batch of batteries and perhaps do a recall (something they should've done a long time ago)?

Well, no, it likely will show voltage variance right before the cutoff, but I think we can all expect the battery burst mid-flight.

I don't see this as a joking matter at all. He's lucky it fell on some rocks. If drones keep falling out of the sky and exploding, there will be a total consumer drone ban in the works in no-time, as soon as someone gets hurt.
Absolutely insane.

Where do you get this idea from?

All Lithium batteries can be dangerous.
That includes the lithium batteries in your mobile phone, laptop, iPad, camera and power tools - not just drones.
If you look at the safety guidelines for any lithium battery you'll find something like this:
DO NOT drop or strike batteries. DO NOT place heavy objects on the batteries or charger. Avoid dropping batteries.

Wow. Sorry about your mishap. Specially the part that you don't have insurance nor refresh care on the drone

All jokes aside, this could have been much worse. Lithium batteries get extremely hot when they have a catastrophic failure. It could have caused a fire, property damage or even personal injury.
In retrospect, be glad it was just the drone. Hope that DJi assist you, good luck.

The controller DAT file likely would show more.
You'd see current, voltage or cell issues prior if it was failing.

It could be any reason behind but arrows mainly  pointing the batteries, which might faulty or become faulty during the flight.
You ,anyway , are very, very ,very lucky  such incident didn't happen over the populated ground or resident ,which could easily cause serious injury or worse case third party fatally or property damage.

"All Lithium batteries can be dangerous."
My cell phone does not weigh 1kg and fly over people's houses, nor is the battery in it as large as the drone's. Also, aside from that one time Samsung's batteries were exploding (which got recalled by the way), you don't really hear about them doing so despite there being around a billion cellphones in the world. I read too many threads about drones falling out of the sky and now exploding while doing so... No matter how you spin lithium batteries, you can't make this acceptable in any way, shape, or form. Yes a battery can explode or burn when mishandled, but it's completely unacceptable when that happens out of the blue during normal operation.

Just google lithium battery danger and you'll find out that there are many incidents that you've never heard of.
It's much more common than you imagine.

I read too many threads about drones falling out of the sky and now exploding while doing so...
Out of the millions of drones flying, very few fall from the sky.
The OP didn't suggest that his battery exploded in the air.
He said ...
On the way back to home suddenly it turned off, a fell from 15-20m on a cliff, then exploded and completely burned.
That sounds a lot like it exploded when it was damaged as it fell onto rocks.
That's a rare incident that could happen to any lithium battery.
It's possible that the cause of the loss of power was a swolen battery that didn't properly fit anymore.

No matter how you spin lithium batteries, you can't make this acceptable in any way, shape, or form. Yes a battery can explode or burn when mishandled, but it's completely unacceptable when that happens out of the blue during normal operation.
This was a rare incident, there's probably a logical cause for it and you don't have enough information to be able to make any conclusions.

Reading his post it might be it fell out of the sky, hit a rock then caught fire.
Thats more plausible, fell out of sky for whatever reason, rock damaged the battery which then ignited
