Actually one of the reasons I got rid of my Osmo Mobile.
I used that for motion timelapses a lot, but it occupied my phone.
So I could not fly in the meantime AND had to charge it somehow.

From what I understand, it runs without the app. BUT the app gives you way more control / ease of use.
(although you have to attach your phone to it to make it sort of natural I guess)
