Crash at a height of about 6 m.  But that surprised me.  I thought the mavic Air had sensors to the front, back and down.

Hi Udo,

True about the sensors!  But they are not fool-proof....small branches on a tree are not always seen, only solid larger object are seen.
And if flying direct into sun light....don`t trust the sensor too much ; depends also on speed and angle towards an object etc ectc

Hope your MA2 is still flyable though.

EDIT nice video.. bottom sensor is more for landing protection ect than for a rapid fly up steer command ....

cheers

Udo, sorry to hear about your crash.  Happy to hear that no damage was incurred to the drone.  Be careful of those tree branches and keep on flying.

Hello Udo13, thank you for reaching us out and it is unfortunate to know that your Mavic Air 2 crashed into a tree. The Mavic Air 2 has forward vision sensor, downward vision sensor and backward vision sensot. The vision systems cannot work properly over surfaces that do not have clear pattern variations. You can check below if what are the followin situations that the Vision Systems won't work properly.

Thank you for your support. Fly safe always.

Ouch!  Looks like the drone lived to fly another day?  Stay safe!

Looks like a tough little drone, though it may have sensors it is the responsibility of the pilot to still see where he is flying and not to fully rely on the AI within the drone.

Also remember that the sensors nor the  camera like to stare directly into the sun. Glad your MA2 survived.

If is difficult for sensor to detect non solid small objects especially if significant amounts of light can permeate the object.  The balance is delicate.  If the sensors are to sensitive then errant obstructions would be constantly defected.

Happy to hear that there's no damage. Always double check your fligh path in tight space, it is tricky to fly among trees. Was there alarm from front sensors?

That was lucky!  I thought it would shut down as soon as the props became obstructed.

Looks like the tree got the worst of it. Best to not try that way to trim the trees ;-)

Lucky; yet, It does not appear to have been a front sensor issue.  Appears like you were moving downward when you struck the branch.  Actually, it also appears like you were landing in the tree! By accident, of course!
