The headquarters of the 12th Diocese of Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism was designated as Historic Site No. 504 on December 21, 2009. It stems from the return of King Ajang of Silla to the Tang Dynasty and the construction of a shrine on Mt. Udusan. When they entered the selection process, Queen Aejang's appearance healed the disease, and the king, who was touched by the fact, came to Mt. Gaya to build a shrine and to take care of the temple. The temple began to be built, followed by Yi Jeong, and was succeeded by Gyeolmundeok. King Taejo, who founded Goryeo in 918, used this temple as a national inspection of Goryeo as a reward for the help of the then governor, Hee-rang, who shook off the view of Later Baekje.

In 1398 (the 7th year of King Taejo's reign), the Tripitaka Koreana in Seonwon Temple, Ganghwa Island was relocated to Jicheonsa Temple, and the following year, it became the cradle of the patriotic faith. After that, King Sejo expanded and renovated Janggyeonggak Pavilion and established Geumdangbyeokwu Pavilion with the power of the royal queens. During the 9th reign of King Seongjong, Garam was greatly expanded, and in recent years it became the base of the anti-Japanese movement in Buddhism.

The temple was reconstructed each time after meeting the seven major conflagration since its foundation, and the current buildings are usually built in the late Joseon Period, reaching about 50 buildings. The only relics from the time of its foundation include a three-story stone pagoda and a stone lantern in the front yard of Daejeokgwangjeon Hall. In particular, the national treasure No. 32 Daejanggyeongpan and No. 52 Daejanggyeongpango and Stone Standing Buddha (Treasure No. 264) are famous, and the mysterious things are that the Tripitaka Koreana and Janggyeonggak remain intact despite several fires. Other major cultural heritages include Wondangam Multi-story Stone Pagoda and Stone lantern, which are Treasure No. 518, and Banyasa Wongyeongwangsabi, Treasure No. 128.

Along with Tongdosa Temple and Songgwangsa Temple, one of the most famous Buddhist temples in Sambo is Beopbo Temple. Currently, Haein Chillim, a Buddhist academy, is crowded with many scholars. The number of marsa is about 150 and includes Baekryeonam, Hongjeam, Yaksuam, and Wondangam.
