I really miss that feature!

I've used it a few times - would be nice to have waypoints without the hyperlapse too

Nice!
I hope (but doubt) MM2 will have this feature as well.

Not long now - about 8 hours I believe and all will be revealed!

They don't have that on MA2?

Yep, it was revealed indeed.
Probably the excitement was gone because of all the leaks. I never thought about it.

No unfortunately - though I have no idea why. Probably to give the older M2P a USP

Looks impressive - 12mp DNG RAW stills, 4K video, digital Zoom, 30 minute flights, 6KM range (CE), can handle a fresh breeze, weighs 242g so will immediately fall into the A1 subcategory of the open category in the new year with nothing more than registration being required to fly it over people in congested areas and costs £400 less (as a fly more combo) than the MA2.

The only down sides are still no obstacle avoidance, no active track, the camera is not as good as the MA2 and they have retained that terrible prop design with the screws. Other than that, this looks very tempting for when the EASA rules come into force. I have my eye on it!

Thats the problem with leaks - it takes away the build up - good bit of marketing to spread the word and generate hype but sadly anti-climatic when offically released.

Exactly.
The whole point of a release is gone now.
Just because people want to earn a bit more youtube money.

True.
I have to say the specs of MM2 look good.
I miss AEB-5 (it is just 3) and some kind of hyperlapse.
I'm also not that pleased with the 24mm focal length, I'd rather have a 28 or something because you can stay further away while still getting nice detailed shot.
But that tends to be the new trend. (wider angle)
I know about zoom, but digital zoom is still a downgrade in detail, because you only use a smaller part of the lens (hence, you get less detail on cheaper lenses)
But, depending on what NL will do with the new rules, it might be a good option.
Lets see how real users like it.

Yeah, for the price point I would not expect professional specs on this thing. The fact you can fly it 3-4 miles away (if you're into that) in a moderate breeze and record in 4K without having to take an A2 CofC to fly it over people in congested areas (away from NFZ's) is it what this one is all about. The image quality will be good enough for most people who fall into the demographic this drone is designed for: beginners and hobbyists who don't want to be licensed to the hilt to take a selfie at the local park.

Yeah indeed.
I will have to decide what is worth more for me.
More options in the drone, or more options to fly.
But I have a feeling even <250gr drones will get more restricted after a while, because there will be a mass of complaints when everybody starts to fly these small drones in congested area's.
So it is still a gamble if you invest in the MM2.

Just found out registration will cost € 23,- per year.
That is mandatory for all categories.
But the licence is only from 250gr +

That did cross my mind and there are many local authorities in the UK that have banned drones such as councils revising byelaws. Whilst aviation authorities permit and control the use of public air space they have no legal control over the ground - if a council has banned the use of drones in their parks (under a public disorder act) you better keep your Mini 2 in the bag or face a fine. This is one area that concerns me - people will start flying their Mini's around cities and towns where they have been banned and the fines will shoot up - not to mention the risk of a beginner crashing it into someone - that will hit the news and may lead to further restrictions or even blanket bans in some countries. But for now it is a great option to literally fly in areas where the MA2 and larger Mavic's won't be legally permitted.

This could go bad in a short time. Leading to new (more strict) rules.....

It does make you wonder. The reason is that the 'scientists' working for the EASA have concluded that if a drone weighing <250g hits a human head at 42.5MPH it won't kill them... I believe that is the reason for the very relaxed regs on these models. I don't approve of camera drones being flown in built up areas.

Indeed.
There are various interests here.
Safety / privacy / etc.
I would not want a drone to be buzzing above my garden either.
So.....

I would for sure try to find the pilot and ask what he/she was documenting.
Sometimes you can't avoid flying over a place, while you are filming something else.
In that case I would be perfectly fine with it.
So staying close to your drone is an important factor here I think.

Fly around the odd farm house from 50m to capture a sunset is one thing but taking off from your back garden and flying over peoples homes is something else - especially with a zoom function

True.
But the problem is that you don't see the difference from the ground.
Especially if you have little experience with drones.
So anything buzzing around might look suspicious

Yeah, public perception is another massive consideration - drones in general are not that popular by the majority - it is still a fairly niche hobby

I have gotten many questions before like 'why are you flying here', 'can you see me from up there' etc. etc.
Most of the time it went from 'not so happy' to 'I'm ok with it' in minutes.
But not always.
