Wow how hot did it say the battery got?

Wondering did that happen while charging the battery while it was in the Mini 2.
If that is the case then maybe it would be best for us to charge ours in the battery charger instead.
Batteries do get hot when charging.
Hope we get an quick answer on this.

Could you do a follow up back here if it happened when charging the battery while it was in the Mini 2 so if that was the case we all will be aware note to charge a battery in the Mini 2.

Hope you get it fixed!

I also have remarked that when the drone is ON and not flying, the temperature of it reaches very high levels...
One more thing:
At Mini 2 Combo pack did you noticed that battery is different in size? I have one battery that enters very easy in drone, and other 2 that gets inside pushed more hard...They are not inflated, I looked at them, it is like the manufacturing process was different and made plastic case of battery a little bigger...Very strange...

Did you get it replaced?

You do realize they have special battery cases to put the in for charging.
Most Rc plane use them.
When a battery fails in charging they can swell fail and burn and explode.  
If the internal charging circuit fails that can happen.
I have seen charging cases especially for Mimi 1 and mini 2 available.
I will never charge a battery in either of my Mini’s
To me the charger is cheaper to replace if it ever burnt up rather than the drone.
So I do think it is revenant.

I don't have a Mini /2 but I would also be hesitant to change a battery internally.  The lack of free flowing air for heat exchange to me seems like a potential problem.

Wish he would tell us know if it happened while charging in the Mini 2.

Unless you get the fly more package the only option is charging within the drone itself.  If this isn't a safe option, DJI would include an alternate charging method for the non fly more package it sells.  Besides, the manual shows in drone as an acceptable charging method.

I understand but all it takes is a faulty circuit in the battery. I believe or think that regulated circuit is in the battery but not totally sure.
If one fails it can get hot and burn. ( like the drone did) I know they have improved in the last few years. I have seen places that  sell pouches for for charging DJI batteries on line.
Myself I would never charge a battery in My drone but that’s just me.
I’d rather have the battery charger and the three batteries burn than the drone.
