Got my first drone last week, the Mini 2.  Flew it four times in a big flat park with no trees, then this 5th flight.  Dumped the footage onto a laptop, installed VideoPad and produced my first video. Still learning and I know I could edit more out (I stopped at the tree to set my RTH altitude), work more smoothly, and plan better, etc. Anyway my first attemp and looking for feedback like am I on the right track? Cheers!

For your first video ever you did quite well and yes you seem to be on track to making some very nice videos.  A bit long in my opinion.

Thank you. I'm making a shorter one with less "personal" stuff in it.  Fun part of video editing is using same footage for different audiences... hate the additional rendering, though!

thank you. they are amazing machines for the price. Between the flight software and gimbal capabilities, it is amazing how they seem like a camera mounted on a hundred foot tall tripod!

Have to agree with "Monty," a nice video, and thank you for sharing.  Did the first two vehicles in the video have any problems driving backwards?

As above, I noticed the cars in reverse. Very talented drivers to be going that fast backwards;-)

Ha! Couldn't they be in England or somewhere? Viewers are NOT supposed to notice that!  Video #2 is only 5 minutes, still runs that piece in reverse but cuts tha cars out. Video #3 is even better at 3:30 minutes... I think I'm learning.

I made the vid for boat friends and not a single one noticed... but I knew you all wouldn't let that go without a comment! Good eye...

Easy for you, maybe. I got the drone to work over water and I'm doing that but nervous as hell. I used to be instrument rated as a single engine pilot, and glad that the app provides ac orientation to and distance from controller on screen (instruments!). These things are damn hard to see (thinking of getting the little strobe) and the camera view gives zero depth perception... but I'm learning.

One nice thing about these is if I screw up and lose one, it is not the end of the world, financially. Meanwhile, I'm collecting a lot of fun 4k footage. I was nervous about that after reading about flyaways, etc, with other drones and earlier DJI's. But I have hours over water and over longggg distances, now, and have not had any problems.

And you are soooo right about the time suck of editing. First there is the rig, then the software and then the choices of what to show, how to show it and when! Really have to keep in mind who the audience is and be willing to render multiple versions for the different viewers.

Thanks for watching!

You're very welcome.  I use Firehouse Technology ARC strobes on the front of my drones to make it much easier to see.

I've never tested the max distance that you can see them at.  However, several flights I have been out at just over a mile and the strobes were still easy to see.

good to know! i checked them out on their site. probably going need one or two (they recommend top and bottom) as Mini 2's are hard to see after only a few hundred feet, especially here in the very gray skies of the PNW!

PS. are they easy to remove and reattach?  I think they use 3M tape... i'm thinking velcro, maybe?  want them for my work over water and stuff, but also don't want them when I'm shooting discreetly.

I initially used velcro and had no issues.  However, since I never fold up my drone I decided to go with 3D printed mounts.

Great video!

Pointers:

Shorter video
Smoother gimbal movement
Plan your shots
Dont ever stop while shooting
