Can you use the charger from the mini 1 for the mini 2?      This is very important considering that the batteries are different.     And as with the mini 1, can you charge the mini 2 with the USB cable?

I don't think that you can charge the Mini 2 batteries on the Mini 1 charger, because the different format of the  batteries only allows the MM1 battery's working on MM2 and not the other way around.
By analogy, it means that you can charge the MM1 battery on the MM2 charger, but not the other way around (charge the MM2 battery on the MM1 charger).

So how can I charge my mini 2 if I don't have the charger? Can I still use a mini USB and any charger brick?  I ordered a new mini 2 and I think it does not have a charger with it.

You can use any charger/cable, what you can't use is the battery hub of the mini 1 to charge the mini 2 batteries (won't fit inside). But you can use the mini 2 battery hub to charge mini 1 batteries (they fit inside).
