So I thought I'd do a little poll to see what people are doing,  recently whilst flying quite a way out to see someone called me and of course then you loose all or part of your screen and it can be a heart stoppng minute,  so how many poeple opt to set DnD or Airplane mode before they fly?

Not always.
I like to have my maps present and (to my best knowledge) you need to have data connection.

DND only for me as I use cellular for using the maps in hybrid during flight and thus no need to cache the maps beforehand

It only uses about ten megs of data too - I've always used DND from day 1 and rarely have signal issues (never caused by using it either)

That is something to remember!

Never though of using DND. Will definetly be turning it on prior to each flight going forward!

Its definitely worth it, if you remember.  Nothing worse that getting a phone call when youre a mile out to sea.

I actually use a dedicated phone for Flying.

When you start the dji app on the equipment page top right hand corner there is a drop down menu, second line down is option offline map, select area to download. Thats the android version i do not know if it is the same in the apple app.

None of the above. I have a dedicated phone just for the drone. Nothing on it except the drone app and maps. No internet connection either.

I tried the same with a Samsung galaxy but I got so fed up with the app crashing and the lack of iCloud support do all my pics magically appeared on all my devices without having to worry about downloads. Guess I’m just too lazy for Android.

most likely a phone issue. Perhaps the way you have set it up.
Android phones have the major share of the marketplace, close to 70% so the OS, and in our case Samsung (there are others that make up the 70%)  are very reliable and robust.
You didn't mention the model of Galaxy. Mine is an old J7 which will still have the old OS version and they suffered from memory leaks.
I bought an S9+ because it promised a significantly brighter screen, but the curved edges and soft button that clashed with the drone app controls killed that idea stone dead. It did lose contact with the drone once so that was yet another black mark against the s9+
I did have an early iPhone and although it always behaved perfectly, I objected to Apple's restrictions on software. Ironically, those restrictions are what makes iPhones work better.

Having now got the iPhone 12 Pro Max I wont be looking to go back to android again,  the quality and performance of the iPhone is better than any android out there.

What would be the connection requirement for using a dedicated phone? I have an older phone I could use for this, but I don't necessarily want it to be active on the cellular network and possibly clash with my current phone. Thanks.

You do not need any connection apart from wifi if you need to update software. I use a samsung galaxy s5 as a dedicated flight phone without a sim card and running android 10 with lineage 17 os( not recomended by dji). I have no problems at all and stream from the m2p to phone in hd. If you have an old android phone adroid 6 and above try using a lineage rom if supported.

Yep. Me too most of the time.

None of the above, I have an older spare phone that I use as a monitor. Works great, but I do think I want to set u an iPad as a monitor, phone screen is so small.
