I am rather liking the mini 2 flymore bag as it allows you to take all your kit nicely in one small bag. I am happy to hand catch the drone but like to take off from the ground.

Also if there is grass etc this gets in the way of the props and also stops the ginbal from calibrating.

I looked at the many pads you can buy but these looked like they would not fit in the bag and I also like making simple things.

So in about 30 mins I have made this fold up pad that will go in the bag. It is heavy enough (made from 5 mm I think ply, much thicker and it wont fit in the bag) to not blow away and when opened it will lie flat but not bend the other way so that the Gimbal can set and calibrate. It also fits in the side slip of the bag nicely along with my Iphone 6S plus that I use specifically for my drones (My main phone is an Iphone 6s)

I use a thick piece of plastic I had for the hinge and stappled it to the ply. All I need now is to varnish it or jaz it up a little with Stickers or what ever you like.

Have a go it is so much more satisfying making somthing for next to nothing (I had all the bits already) than just buying somthing that others have designed which perhaps does not meet your needs.

Interesting point about the staples and the compass. I suspect however the don't have enough mass. I never thought of that I will report back after a few uses. If they do I will glue it some how

I think that sort of material would work well. I even thought some cardboard from any box that had a shiny surface would be ok and perhaps varnish it with something.

For me it is fitting in the bag and being simple that is the key.

Looks nice! I made a foldable one out of cardboard a while ago, and painted a red H in the middle, then printed out some "warning, drone zone"  stickers that I found online, and glued them on to the pad to give it a bit of character. I haven't used it lately, so I'm not sure where it is, but if I find it i'll post a photo

I made one from 4 small rectangles that are laced together so that they fit in the back pocket.
