Only products that contain USA components cannot be manufactured now,  but It looks like DJI has already moved away from using USA suppliers.

Reality check

I think the ban may actually hurt american business in the end, for example, FLIR actually can gain contract with DJI for the enterprise edition thermal sensors, now DJI develop their own instead. crossing fingers to see who will the winner in the end.

We should have fixed that recently by banning a certain high level government official. Even his neighborhood doesn't want him back. The new plan otherwise would have been to sell the technology to North Korea and then they sell it to China. "Upside Down World"

The list has no effect on consumer products.  The ban relates to the exporting of technologies, components and certain software made or developed in the United States to companies in China on the list.  DJI products are designed and made in China and as far as I have been able to discern do not use any components produced in the United States.  

DJI was added to the list because the Chinese government uses DJI drones to surveil the minority muslim population and doing so based on religion is considered a  human rights violation by the United States.  DJI received a technology export ban not because they were actually violating human rights but because China as a nation is a part owner in the company and uses the products maliciously.

DJI products are designed and made in China and as far as I have been able to discern do not use any components produced in the United States.


Keep in mind that the ban also applies to components manufactured outside the US by US companies. There wouldn't be any point in having a ban if DJI didn't use US technology.

Keep in mind the source of that information and how that type of info has in recent years been highly suspect. Remember the weapons of mass destruction? Remember the characterizations of white supremacists as "good people"? Remember the references to using chlorine bleach internally to fight Covid-19?

i wonder what's gonna happen to the Smart Controller, given it uses Android

Android opensource and there can't be limitation. But any Google services may not be allowed to run on it if there is any.

Reality check

The ban could be to keep secrets from DJI.  We need to realize, there are a lot of top top secret big projects that exist and using DJI drones to take photos and video for data analysis can let China know about it.  We are looking it at from the limited perspective that is given to us.  Because of tech, a lot of top secret things can be known fast if the structure to spread were to exist properly.  When comparing everything that has happened in the world, if people died for whatever reason, COVID, they could make it into a better place but if people only see dying as super negative, dismissing all the Other problems that could and have happened, it makes it worse.  Including every single thing possible, we would be able to know things that make certain things valid w/ reasons known or not.  Sure everything is just a guess but if you have valid information such as photos, videos, and other data such as thermals, it no longer becomes a guess but a reality snapshot.  When people start taking data from super top secret equipment like quantum teleportation, China can take it and do it the same or better.  Still though, we have yet to see a rocket that lands like SpaceX from China.   Personally, it is preferred China makes it because the Parrot Anafi feed is so damn bad, USA drone, DJI is so much better.
