A couple of weeks ago, I posted pictures under the title 'Abandon Ship!' of a sunken pleasure craft on the nearby canal.
Today, when walking 7 or 8 Kms further down the same canal, I came across another. It could be the sister craft to the
Tallulah, so closely does it resemble that wreck.  Must be something about those fibreglass hulls, or general neglect.

Thats a sad sight.    In the summer where I was walking a lot there was a huge old barge that had a big steel box added to the top, we thought it was a house boat conversion,  and then one day it was gone.   I recently came across it flying over the local marina,  its jut sitting there, no work yet has been done on it.  Then last night someone left a comment on my instagram of a photo of the pub by the marina (its also on an old barge).  I looked at this persons pictures and it turns out he drives a tug boat and he moved that old barge,  I left him a comment to see if he knew what the plans for it were but so far he's not answered me.

For the most part fiberglass hulls are very durable.  If I had to guess I would say that was caused by pure neglect.  Season's greetings and stay safe Blériot.

Yeah, sad sight. Hope it doesn't leak too much oil and stuff!

There are some beautiful areas along the canal, but here and there are neglected hulks like this to blight the view.

The canal towpaths are a great amenity for walkers, through some beautiful countryside. But neglected hulks like this are a blot on the landscape.

Perhaps thats what they do to the boat that dont pay the fee.

The rivers and Inland waterways authority will probably step in at some point, and deal with it.

I think that would be counter-productive. The clear-up cost will exceed the mooring fees by far. But then there's always the risk of vandalism on craft which are left untended for long periods.

You're probably right on that one.

Do the authorities not cite the owners?

It's hard to know how these sinkings occur, but vandalism cannot be ruled out.

I imagine they would. Maybe if thee owner had died, or moved away with no forwarding address, or whatever, it might be difficult to process.

Ahhh, I see your point on being difficult to process.  Still a shame as they become eyesores.

They do. I'm not sure how long they will remain like that before the authorities step in to clean up.

Unfortunately, that probably means the taxpayers will foot the bill for cleanup.

Indirectly, yes.
