Maisan Mountain is named after the shape of the two rocky peaks rising side by side, similar to the ears of a horse. The eastern peak is Male_maibong and the western peak is Female_maibong.
During the Cretaceous period, the end of the Mesozoic Era, two peaks rose as the stratum split. If you go up 448 steps between Male_maibong Peak and Female_maibong Peak, mineral water rises from the granite cave on the middle of Male_maibong Peak.
Also, if you go down the opposite side of the floor between the two rocky peaks, you will reach Tapsa Temple. It is amazing that the stone towers, which may be shaken by the strong wind, do not collapse.
Maitap Temple is famous along with 80 stone pagodas that the mysterious rock mountain has been designated as a vacation spot for provincial residents because of its beautiful natural scenery. There are cultural properties such as Tapsa Temple, Eunsu Temple, Geumdangsa Temple, Buksu Temple, and Yi Sanmyo Shrine.
Maisan Mountain looks different depending on the season, so it is called Maibong in spring, Yonggakbong in summer, Maibong in autumn, and Munpilbong in winter. It is beautiful in all four seasons.
In spring, cherry blossoms will bloom on the 1.5km-long road linking Isanmyo and Tapsa in the southern part of Maisan Mountain and the Maisan Beetle Festival will be held. On the way to and from, the 47-kilometer road side of Jeonju-Gunsan forms a cherry blossom tunnel. In autumn, the silver grass forms a wave, and in autumn, the leaves turn red.
