thanks ... just updated DJI GO 4 .... I always had problems with the smart controller and DJI GO 4 ... the app was constantly disconnecting ...... hopefully now the problem is solved !!!

in fact I first updated the smart controller with DJI Assistant 2 with usb cable and pc .... and after on the smart controller I updated DJI GO 4....

Yes, I hate flying with my phone or having to mess with a tablet holder and cable for an iPad.  SC is just so easy.  Turn it on and fly and you can see easily with that bright screen!

Can't agree more, the Smart Controller is so much easier to deploy. It just feels more comfortable to hold with my hands. Though I've always wished the stick tension are adjustable like they are on a conventional RC helicopter transmitter. But they're still better than the standard DJI remotes.

Updated to 4.3.38, it all went smoothly and quickly. Not sure if the app crashing issues are solved; but VERY DISAPPOINTINGLY the histogram still goes back to a default spot next to the map box, obscuring the distance display every time it starts up. Come on DJI, this is simply UNACCEPTABLE!

So? What stability issues were in the previous version?

Sometimes  the Go4 app on  my SC would crash.
I haven’t experienced any issues  with the GOFly App, but then again, I sent the SC in to DJI for repair
just as they released the compatibility with the MA 2 and the SC.

After update to this FW my SC was totaly unresponsive the other day - needed to reset it with holding power button + c button under, never happened before. I doubt about stability of this firmware

try a factory reset and reinstall the latest firmware using the DJI Assistent and a pc.

I had weird crashing of the GO4 App on the SC after that previous update (v01.00.0820) I went back to the previous version... NOW this version (v01.00.0860 ) seems to have corrected those crashes so far...(fingers crossed)

thank you very much .... I have had many crashes .... to be sure I also used the original controller (in slave) together with the smart controller .... DJI GO 4 on smart controller every time it crashed !!!!!

This is my first issue with the Smart Controller. It won't update. It gets stuck in 15% and won't proceed forward. I have tried multiple times with wifi and DJI Assistant 2 for Mavic to update the controller and EVERYTIME it gets stuck to this 15%. I used the program with Mac pro and Macbook pro. Ive made the hard reset to factory settings and nothing works. I can't connect to drone because the controller needs to update it first. Any advice please before I throw this ... on the wall.

Ive seen this info so many times...

Review all the info/posts regarding the upgrade procedures from the last update (Sept. I believe) ....There is plenty of info and links in that thread.
Quite a few things to check and too much to repeat here but if you review that thread in this DJI forum, I predict you will work it out...
Lots of useful posts/videos on YouTube as well.

Happy to report that the new firmware update for the DJI Smart Controller fixes the issues with the Mavic Air 2.    The compass on the map now orients the drone correctly in relationship with my location.   The stuttering and glitchy app navigation is now smooth and buttery.    The range of the stock MA2 controller is still better when comparing their range, but they are very close.   
Thank you DJI forum people for hearing my complaints!

Hi CMNDR, updated the SC firmware, but the compass orientation of the SC and the map is still 180degree off when flying Mavic Air 2....
Did I do anything wrong?Many thanks

DJI GO 4 CRASH !!!!  today I was able to test my M2Zoom with smart controller updated to the latest firmware and the latest version of the Dji go 4 app .... the problems ARE NOT SOLVED .... in flight the app crash and returns to the home.  ... GO FLY ... THANKS DJI !!!!  KEEP IT UP
