Its quite a gentle affair,  I was expecting the water to be rushing out the bottom under some force.

Well most of the energy is converted into electrical power, so the outflow is quite subdued. The river is quite low again at the moment, but after heavy rains or snow melt it positively roars over the weir. I've added a little movie clip of the screw turning, but from ssuch a height it's not the clearest of views.

Thanks RDB. I'd estimate the screw to be about 10 metres in length and 3 metres in diameter.
It's maximum output is rated at 75KwH when the river is in full flow after heavy rains.

It looks like they could have installed two screws there,  seems like there's plenty of water to drive it.

I think it was the Green Revolution   The Torrs was already a tourist spot. It certainly brings the visitors in "normal" times.

The enormous flocks of starlings at the end of Autumn are a sight to behold. I wouldn't attempt to approach them either.
