Maybe DJI could simply offer a flat profile in a future upgrade, you’ve added Raw to photos, why not make this great little drone an exceptional drone for hobby videographers?

Too bad you have to pay to get it right, while DJI could add it just in camera...

Thanks.
It works.
But it does give a very large amount of noise.
If DJI would make this in camera, it would not be an issue....

Mini doesn't have log thats what this tutorial is about,  it converts regular footage with an algorithm to Log so you can then apply regular luts to it.

in the dir. Generic Rec.709 to LOG, under LUTs by IWLTBAP (CUBE) then utility then Generic Rec.709 to LOG, there you find the cube U-9999-RTL.cube

Does the lut really increate the dynamic range?  This is like converting JPEG to RAW files - you can't recover lost data.

Shooting in log profile preserves a huge amount of data. If you shoot in non log profile and convert it with a lut, be it logarithmic, you recover non of the data lost in during the shooting. If the image was over sharpened in the camera this Lut also does nothing to combat it. Converting to this quasi Log profile only serves one purpose. To be able to use Luts designed to be used with log files.
It's an extra step that in not going to improve your image in any way shape or form.

I tested it, but the over contrasty footage won't get much better when you use this.
(it does look flat, but at the cost of extra noise that needs taken care afterwards)
If only DJI would implement a flat profile before creating the final video file....

Would have been super nice if this could work.
Of course, there are noise reduction filters too.
But the ones that work good, are too expensive for me.

In his example I think it got quite good results though.  Certainly better than the exampe where he didnt convert it first.  A real log profile would be the most ideal though I would agree on that.

Out of interest did you test it on a clip that was in low light or full sun light,  his example was quite a bright day so may have had less noise to start with.

It was a very well lit scene.
The M2 has tons of noise by default.
Not sure if it is really sensor noise, or just something in the file.
It is present only when the video moves (as if there is a layer added to the file)

Lowest ISO of course

The LUT just exaggerates what is already there when you start.

You can't see the noise here, only when the footage moves, you can see it.

His example was quite a bit brighter than that,  but then on his example I doubt we would see the noise either.

Here is the 'best' example I could get (with the least amount of dark parts where you see the noise)

After applying the LUT you then have to add your colour grading LUT,  maybe that would help,  BTW the site where the cube was has lots of other lots.

I know.
Still the noise is present. Also in the brighter areas.
It is just a weird overlay over the footage.
My guess is that the sharpening introduces it. (as the ISO is set to 0)

I'm never exposing for the right, since blown out footage is impossible to recover.
So I leave a bit of room on that side.

Another test.
The noise is much worse than with the MP.
That is rather annoying.

You're obviously right, seems many people don't understand well how image processing works
