Simply take an analogue compass with you and use it to find Grid North before you fly your drone.
Remember some land mark in that grid north direction then when flying and using your map on DJI Fly (in North Up mode not compass mode) if you ever get get disorientated spin you controller to face your land mark. Your position and your drones relative position will be aligned then simply turn your controller to face the drone i.e 45, 90, 135, 180 etc degrees to roughly face your drone. Job done!
My days of painstakingly trying to overcome my cellphones random compass orientation interference are over :-)
You look down to see where the shadow is )))
If you are in dark...check the stars ))
If is cloudy, search for where the vegetation grow on trees... ))
Com'on...any phone have a compass that works OK...Never seen one that shows north in south...
Still, the ex-compass from DJI Fly was very good, the stupid decision from DJI to replace it with that compass from maps I do not understand...And I usually get any improvements gladly.
I wish the new radar orientation was positionable like the histogram. That way you could select to have it always visible even with the map displaying and place it in a desired position.
My large complaint is that the Controller orientation arrow to the drone is hard to see under the home button.

This is true just don't use you phone compass next to your controller if it's sensitive.
But getting back to your natural compass...you are in the desert, there's no sun, it's misty......
