Yes, it seems essential to me to always have it with me, rather than the batteries alone.  It is compact and all the batteries are stored in it, in one place.

probably. If one battery catch fire, all ofthem will be ruined. But still, it's better to loose 3 batteries than a Lipo fire burning down your place.

It's certain !  It is not the perfect solution for all cases.  It is a practical solution for saving space when traveling, with all items stored in one place.  

The Dji mini 2 doesn't have Lipo batteries they are lithium ion.
